Friday night opens at Romford Greyhound Stadium with two minor competitions getting underway — including the return of Fabulous Sonique, fresh off her Coral Coronation Cup win, back at her favourite track.

Nap of the Night – 7.27pm

Romford Friday Night 500 Standard Heat Two
 Whitewood Lenny (Trap 6) – 3pts win @ 2/1

The nap of the evening runs in the Romford Friday Night 500 Standard Heat Two at 7.27pm where Whitewood Lenny will look to go one better than his two second-place finishes on his most recent competitive starts over C&D.

He is capable of comfortably breaking the 24-second barrier when on song and although he needs to clear Racenight Mikey in trap five, if trapping on terms, he should go round in front. He beat Untold Tether by over four lengths in a recent trial at Oxford so he has the measure of that rival.

! Greyhound racing betting insight: A level break for Whitewood Lenny should suffice for victory.

Next Best – 8.36pm

Gibbo Giants Stakes
Funky Ryan (Trap 1) – 2pts win @ 5/4

The next best is Funky Ryan in trap one in the Gibbo Giants Stakes at 8.36pm over 400m. He’s an exciting newcomer with a flying 13.41 sprint trial at Romford, followed by a strong 24.28 on his first look over the full distance.

He has plenty of scope for improvement and being drawn on the inside should allow him to lead by the second bend — provided he traps well. Crokers Bluebell has early speed but lacks a look at the track, which could give Funky Ryan the edge.

Value Bet – 9.46pm

RGOA Winner Of One Standard (400m)
Droopys Metaphor (Trap 3) – 2pts win @ 7/4

Joe’s third bet of the night is Droopys Metaphor in the RGOA Winner Of One Standard at 9.46pm. He was second to Padders Inmotion seven days ago with Le Pur Sang behind in fourth, but that doesn’t tell the full story.

Droopys Metaphor broke well and challenged throughout until being forced wide at the third bend. With a clear run tonight and a smart break, he’s expected to lead from the front.

! Forecast angle: Le Pur Sang may again be the main challenger late, but Droopys Metaphor should hold on if leading early.

Other Greyhound Selections at Romford

  • Fabulous Sonique – Back in action in heat one of the Doug Tyler Summer Cup at 7.44pm over 575m. Back at her favoured track and a standout on class.

  • Droopys Rosie – Can lower the colours of Untold Paanga in heat two at 8.01pm. If turning close, Rosie has the kick to finish stronger.
