Kian gets the better of old rival in Nottingham Open victory

The first of the opens was a sprint contest over 305m, and looked on paper to be a match between Esther Driver’s Mossrich Karen and Jill Sutherst’s Witton Williams. That turned out to be the case, when Mossrich Karen (4/7F) trapped well to make all the running in 17.74 (+20). Witton Williams, making just his second start, stayed on well in the later stages and was only a head behind at the finish.

The second contest saw a wide-margin victory for Peter Holland’s Velvet Madrid (6/4) over the 500m trip. Blasting clear in the early stages, producing a quick 4.98 sectional, he was able to build up a decent lead, and although that was reduced rounding the final bends, he was able to kick clear again on the run for home to score in 29.86 (+50) by 6 ¼ lengths

The final open of the evening saw the in-form Jetstream Breeze looking to land a hat-trick of victories, up against Sambar Kian, who had chased home Jetstream Breeze in three of his previous five starts. This time, it was Colin Wilton’s runner Sambar Kian (5/1) who got the better of things. Despite a tricky looking draw out in trap 4, he was able to break well and built up an early lead. Jetstream Breeze overcame some early trouble and set off after him but was unable to reel in the winner, who crossed the line in front by 2 ½ lengths in 29.64 (+50)
