King Memphis all set for Hove trial

King Memphis returns to action this evening with a two-bend trial over the 285-metre trip lined up at Hove.

Liz McNair-trained superstar needs no introductions with wins in the 2023 RPGTV English Puppy Derby at Towcester and 2023 Coral Olympic at Hove, plus he was a finalist in the 2024 English Greyhound Derby at Towcester.

During the 2024 Kent Derby at Central Park, King Memphis set a new 28.57 track record in the semi-finals and was then sent off as the 4/7 favourite for the main event, but finished second behind the Maxine Locke-trained Droopys Display, who won at 18/1.

Memphis then had a couple of months off before returning to action at Monmore and Central Park in February and March.

Following 16 weeks off after a victory at Central Park in early March, King Memphis will be looking to blow away the cobwebs as he builds up race fitness ahead of the upcoming summer competitions.

Also set to trial this evening is Missile One from the Seamus Cahill kennel.

Missile One was a finalist in the 2024 Coral Olympic, finishing fourth behind Proper Heiress. More recently, Missile One was eliminated in the second round of the Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby at Towcester.

Missile One has a 29.25 win over the 500-metre trip on his card and a flying 29.99 win over the 515-metre distance at Hove. When he gets it right at the boxes, he's a very capable performer.

Elsewhere, look out for Lemon Anton in a 285-metre trial. The Maxine Locke-trained May 22 son of Ballymac Anton is lightly raced but is clearly very pacey, as his 28.79 win at Central Park back in October 2024 showed. He has only run once in this calendar year and is one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

Headford Asher is also set to trial this evening over the two-bend 285-metre sprint trip at Hove.

Asher is three from three over the 500-metre trip, including an eight-length win in the Hove Puppy Cup in April. The August 2023 youngster has kept good company of late around Towcester, running against the likes of Romeo Alliance, Romeo Ability and Droopys Poker. He’s another that’s worth keeping an eye on in the next few weeks.

Arena Racing Company Northern Puppy Derby finalist Ballymac Axel is also set to trial this evening over the sprint trip. The May 2023 son of Ballymac Copper has only had one competitive run in recent months, so should come on plenty for this outing.
