Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers Classic - ante post betting

The entries have closed, the draws have been made, and the sponsors have priced up the events.

Let’s look ahead to the 2025 Category One Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers Classic at Monmore.

The first-round heats of both competitions take place on Saturday, August 9 with the semi-finals taking centre stage on Saturday, August 16.

Finals night will take place on Saturday, August 23 with supporting opens including the Peter Billingham Memorial Trophy, Vixons Contracts Ltd Trophy, Ladbrokes 210, Ladbrokes 264, Ladbrokes 480, Ladbrokes Bitches, Ladbrokes 480 Puppy, Ladbrokes 630, Ladbrokes 684 and the Ladbrokes.com 900 metre open race worth £500 to the winner.

The Ladbrokes Gold Cup run over the four-bend 480 metres at the Midlands venue Monmore is worth £10,000 to the winner and looks ultra-competitive with plenty in with chances. Previous winners of the Category One event include Taylors Sky in 2011, Swift Hoffman in 2015 and Churchfield Syd in 2024.

The first round heats take place on Saturday evening and look wide-open.

Heat two will see ante post favourite Droopys Trade line up from T2 for trainer Patrick Janssens.

The July 2023 son of Droopys Sydney finished well over course and distance last week and looks a live contender for outright honours. Heat three will see Northern Flat winner Naochra run from T1 taking on the pacey Droopys Aladdin from T2 and Carrick Fergie in T3, that race will hinge on what happens at the boxes. Heat six also catches the eye with Brindle Bully (T6) taking on Jacktavern Chief from T5.

Ante post betting is available with sponsors Ladbrokes with Droopys Trade at the top of the market at 8s. Carrick Fergie and Droopys Aladdin are next in at 9s with Brindle Bully and Jacktavern Chief at 10s.

Recent Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat winner Naochra is available at 12s with Rackethall Brute and PGR Puppy Derby winner Headford Dane both on offer at 16s.

Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic

The Ladbrokes Summer Stayers run over the six-bend 630-metre trip at Monmore is also worth £10,000 to the winner. Previous winners include Westmead Hawk (2005), Millwards Teddy (2015), Warzone Tom (2022) and Droopys Clue who took last years main event in a thrilling finish when getting up late on to deny Queen Georgia who attempted to make all.

Droopys Invent looks an interesting runner in the first heat from what should be an ideal draw in T1 for the Hove raider. New Destiny lines up from T2 in the fourth heat at 7.22. Romeo Empire will run from T4 in the same heat, that looks a hot race.

Heat six at 7.56 will see Amazing Zeus (T2) take on Vhagar from T4. Don't rule out Antigua Kestral from T1. The Kevin Hutton-trained Oxford raider bolted up over six-bends at his home track a couple of weeks ago and would be a runner with a level break.

This looks like a top-class renewal with plenty in with leading claims of landing the £10,000 prize money on offer.

Sponsors Ladbrokes make the Mark Wallis-trained railer New Destiny the favourite outright at 5s with kennelmate Vhagar next in at 6s, along with Regency runner-up Romeo Empire and Clona Ice at the same price.

Of those at bigger prices, Bombay Nutty could tempt a few in at 16s, as could Sunnyside Broxi at 20s. Coral Coronation Cup finalist Teddie is on offer at 66s with lightly raced Timmys Hunter at 100s.

Ticket and event info is available via the official Monmore Greyhound Stadium website.
