Is Ousmane Dembele as quick as a greyhound?

Ally McCoist wasn’t wrong when he said “Look at Dembele there, like trap six at Monmore.”

The Scottish footballing legend was commentating on Paris St-Germain's 5-0 beating of Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Munich for TNT Sports on Saturday when he likened Ousmane Dembele’s pace to that of a greyhound.

On Tuesday afternoon, Droopys Expected did his bit to back up the comparison to the flying French winger by romping home from trap six at the Wolverhampton track.

Trained by Kim Billingham-Hine and owned by Ukcoinage, Droopys Expected blasted out of the boxes in the striped jacket and the 7/4 favourite maintained a furious march to run out an easy all-the-winner of the A2 contest.

So, it isn’t just football that McCoist is an expert on, as he clearly knows his greyhound racing too.

The commentator’s quip didn’t go unnoticed by the viewers and it sparked plenty of interaction on social media.

Joe Edwards, Communications Manager at Monmore, said: "I had the night off so was watching the final at home and thought 'have I just heard that right?”

"So, I played it back again and couldn't quite believe it. I thought I'd get the video out on socials as soon as I could and there was a fair bit of feedback from X users who had noticed it as well when watching the game.“

McCoist and Monmore go viral

The comment went down a storm with football and greyhound fans alike, much to the delight of Andrews.

He added: “It's the most viral post we've had on X during my nearly three years at Monmore.

“We've carried on the fun by getting a PSG shirt with Dembele's name on the back and did a little video and photo with Droopys Expected, in trap six, winning for Kim Billingham-Hine.

“It's been a lot of fun and the response has been great. It may be wishful thinking to get Ally down here for a race night, but if you don't ask you'll never know! Either way, we really appreciated the shoutout!"

The invite is there for McCoist, so let’s hope we see him down at Monmore soon and cheering on a trap six winner in person.
