Monday's opens at Nottingham fall victim to record temperatures

NOTTINGHAM is the latest track to cancel Monday's card due to high temperatures,

A track spokesman said: "Even at 8-9pm tonight we are looking at 30 degrees - and that's after a very hot day.

"Making the call early has allowed trainers to make arrangements and prevents travelling, especially for some of the handlers coming from further afield for our regular open-race Monday nights."

Monmore was the first to cancel Monday's card, issuing notification to its trainers on Sunday afternoon. The Wolverhampton track has since called off Tuesday's card but fully expect Wednesday's programme to go ahead as normal.

A spokesman said: "The temperature from Wednesday is expected to be much lower and going forward more comfortable conditions are anticipated. So racing as normal on Wednesday."

Romford soon followed - and the Essex track has also cancelled Tuesday's card.

Central Park, due to race this afternoon (Monday), also cancelled on Sunday.

Valley track in Wales also cancelled tomorrow's (Tuesday) meeting due to the heat.
