11 of the 12 races at Romford this evening are open class contests. Just an A2 sweepstake final is on the slate for the graders.
Michael's Friday Romford tips
*** 8.36 Romford -Gothic Kitty (3pts) 2/1
** 8.54 Romford - Untold Paanga (2pts) 8/11
* 9.28 Romford - Ontherun Eden (1pt) 9/4
One of the top races of the year for those of us who have been in the sport for a long time is the Mitch Millward Marathon, run in the memory of a top owner and a regular on the tracks around the country. It will be 10 years ago next month that Mitch lost his battle with cancer and it's in the race sporting his name that the top bet of the evening is running in the shape of Gothic Kitty.
She is searching for a course and distance hat-trick, winning by a combined 11 and a quarter lengths on her last two visits. Michelle Brown's middle runner has plenty of early gears for an eight-bend performer and she should quickly have these on the stretch behind her. A draw in stripes in unusual for her (though she is 2/3 from this slot in the past) but she is the sole seeded runner, with five railers inside.
Nathan Hunt has the next best for the night in the very next race. Untold Paanga is a very tough dog to pass when he times his exit from the boxes, with his draw right on the inside looking a tidy one. His career-best over this 575m distance came when he was draw in red, winning three of his seven starts from this jacket at Romford, with two of those defeats coming at the paws of Mad For Stirling and another against Icemans Girl.
The final bet of the evening comes in the second to last race but Ontherun Eden is worth sticking around for. Another to sport the red jacket this evening, he stopped the clock in 23.65 (+20) from this starting position back in August. He has a course specialist in Bacon Roll against him but April was the last time that she ducked under 24 seconds.
