Monday Night Open Report- Fradgley continues fine 2025 with Nottingham hat-trick

Football season may only be a few weeks away, but David Fradgley continues to be in fine form in 2025, netting a hat-trick at Nottingham on Monday night

As Chris Oliver wrote last Monday, Kinsley trainer David Fradgley is having a career-best year and at the time, had recorded 21 open race victories from 76 runners, with a win percentage of 27.63%, which was up with the best in the country for 2025.

Those figures have increased following a hat-trick at Nottingham on Monday night, with Fradgley currently sitting with a win percentage of 29.26%.

The trainer said: “We’ve been going pretty well. We’ve had a bit of luck in placement, but I think that’s what it’s about – if you can find in the right race and luck goes with you, then you can win a few".

Last night was a prime example of that, finding the right race and winning a few.

Stonepark Abba (9/1) hadn’t won a race since coming from off the pace to land a handicap contest at Kinsley back in April, but after trips to Sheffield, Doncaster and home track Kinsley, she gained that victory in good fashion. Having been slow into stride, she was able to turn the first bend in a handy position and managed to hit the front at the third bend from the front running Loxleys Troy, going on to record a three and a quarter length victory in 30.28 (+50) for the 500m.

Stonepark Wes (5/6F) has been in good form in recent weeks and following three wins at Doncaster, he made it four wins in his last five starts in the following contest, again over 500m, when making all the running for a length and a half success from Bridefort Lady in 29.69 (+40).

The hat-trick arrived courtesy of one of the more in-form runners in the country, Rental Crisis (4/9F). Fradgley’s runner made it 9 victories in his last 12 starts comprising of top grade victories at Kinsley as well as opens at Doncaster, Sheffield and Nottingham with a five and a half length victory from Mystical Allie in 18.12 (+10) for the 305m trip.

Elsewhere on the card, Jason Gray landed the most valuable contest on the card, the £500 to the winner Arena Racing Company Stayers Trophy Final over 680m with Loxleys Forest (4/7F) confirming the form from last week’s heat with Vale Bluebell. Having made all the running last week, Loxleys Forest led at the third bend when taking up the lead from 22/1 outsider Slippy Nora, before holding on from Jill Llewellin’s Vale Bluebell for a three quarter of a length victory in 41.95 (+40).

Perry Barr trainer Gerry Ballentine’s Noels Shadow (4/6F) made a belated British debut a winning one when overcoming some trouble at the first bend to run out a four length winner over the 305m from Blackstone Debby in 18.18 (+10). Having been withdrawn from his intended debut at Perry Barr in June, he won here in good fashion and was well fancied so he could be worth following in the coming weeks.

Swindon trainer Rob Short provided the other winner on the card, when his runner Pulleen Dasher (4/1) followed up last week’s victory over course and distance with another all the way success to land his hat-trick, this time recording a two and half length victory over Jaymir Arlo in 30.23 (+30).
