Monmore aim to play their cards right

Monmore are trying something a little different with the imminent release of their Superstars Trading Cards.

They have been working on the exciting new project for some time and the Wolverhampton track are now in the final stages of producing the cards.

The hope is to have them on sale by early next week, at the latest, and the interesting collectables are sure to prove popular with racegoers and fans of the sport.

It was Joe Edwards, Monmore communications manager, who came up with the idea, and he said: “The Superstars Trading Cards was originally just a bit of fun on social media.

“I mocked up some designs of the greyhounds based on Pokemon, Match Attax or Top Trumps cards, and thought it might make some nice social media posts.

“The reception was incredible - much more than I expected. Such was the idea to make these into physical cards that can go on sale at the track, but not to benefit ourselves – to benefit the work of our fantastic partners at Greyhound Trust Wolverhampton, who do a great job in looking after our retired greyhounds before they go on to find their forever homes.

“We made up 50 different cards, consisting of current and past greyhounds here at Monmore. There are 40 'standard' cards, five ‘champion’ cards, featuring our most Category One competition winners, and five ‘legend’ cards, made up of Hall of Fame members and track record holders.

“There are going to be 500 packs on sale. We’ve had 50 lots of the 50 cards printed off and there will be five cards per pack, available at £3 each. All the profits from the sales will go to Greyhound Trust Wolverhampton. So, fingers crossed we can raise a chunk of money for them.”
