Monmore set for big night

Monmore is the scene of the sport's latest big-race double header on Saturday with the finals of the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic.

The pair of £10,000-to-the-winner deciders form the centrepiece of a four-final, all-open card at the Wolverhampton venue and Joe Edwards, communications manager at the track, cannot wait for the action to get under way, although he has a busy night ahead!

"It will certainly be that, but it's been the same in recent weeks - and we revel in it," said Edwards, who has certainly an upturn in numbers, adding: "The atmosphere at the track over the past couple of weeks has been lovely.

"Having been slightly quieter during the World Cup, the buzz is very much back and it's great to see some really high-quality finals.

"It's always nice to take the photos of the winners at the presentation area and get to speak to the trainers and owners.

"One of the owners, Gary Armstrong, who has Grouchos Gregor and Fortanach Col in the Gold Cup and Summer Stayers finals respectively, has been travelling all the way down from Motherwell to support his stars - and it will be the same with the supporters of Slingshot Poppy, also coming down from Scotland.

"Connections of each of the finalists receive a complimentary table for four in our restaurant, rosettes to keep, and framed photos to mark the occasion, and we're all set."
