Mullins and Young with Friday night Romford trebles
Open class action on Friday night came from Romford where David Mullins and Paul Young had a treble each and from Sunderland where Savva Roberts had a double.

Two trebles and two doubles at Romford
There was a treble for David Mullins at Romford with Piemans Goalie picking up another win. The veteran had Bombay Buck and his own kennelmate Brindle Bully chase him home in a strong contest in terms of quality. A slick 3.73 split helped the winner get to the opening bend in front, and he has always been a tough dog to shake off the bunny. It was win number 38 in race 102 for Mullins, a supremely consistent performer.
Zenith Legend has enjoyed a solid year, kicking off the 10th month with his eighth open race success of 2026. His draw in stripes allowed him the benefit of avoiding the crowding on his inside at a couple of key moments, hitting the front at the fourth bend.
The Mullins treble was kicked off by Lavan Jet who was quickest into stride to make it a fifth win from her last seven starts. She has skated through the grades here, winning in A8 on July 25, using those early gears to gain enough of a lead in the opening stages to come home in front.
There was also a treble on the night for Paul Young with Droopys Rhona taking a win in the 750m contest. She tracked around the early pace setter in Drombeg Flash, grabbing that one close to the line. Stamina is very much her strong suit, getting herself into a challenging position early on which was always going to make her dangerous.
Scooby Amethyst is a lovely type for Young, pitched straight into the Coral Romford Puppy Cup heats on her opening start for the kennel, she has now won all four subsequent starts, getting off the mark at open class level last night. Her early pace on the rails is going to stand her in good stead around here.
The Young treble was kick started by Mahoonagh Hoffa in the opening race of the night. He put himself in pole position on the run to the first turn and with trouble behind him, he was able to slip away from his field to hold off his kennelmate Miami Sapphire who chased him down to a length.
Nathan Hunt picked up a late double in the final two races of the night. Goldcash Warrior had little trouble adding to his impressive Romford debut with a second 575m win. The level of form that he has shown in those two successes are going to make him a big player in the Coral Champion Stakes which begins next Friday night.
It was a 400m win from Bretons Girl that kicked off the Hunt double. She finds 400m to be at the top end of her stamina range but there is little that can live with her to the third bend when she times her exit right. A 3.66 split set her on the way to her win, getting home by half a length.
There was also a double on the night for Dave Lee with Lollipop Lucy proving well suited by the step up in trip to 575m of late, adding an open race win to her S4 and S2 wins. Just an A8 victor over the 400m distance, this suits her much better, quickly on the bunny here to make most of the running.
Another to make best use of his early pace was Ontherun Jamie who led up in a race where Puppy Cup heats fastest Goldstar Connie was sent off as favourite. There was a length in it at the line the first time round with the Lee-trained runner on the inside of his main market rival, with that distance doubling by the time they came around again.
As already mentioned, it is only a week until the start of the Champion Stakes and there was a marker laid down by Kelly Wilton's Grouches Gregor. Runner-up in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup over 480m at Monmore, he got to the lead early on to get first run on Derby finalist Ballymac Ralf in a strong contest for the level.
The other winner on the card was Seamus Cahill's Droopys Invent. Another six-bend contest, he got himself to the front at the opening bend and pulled clear by a little over three lengths where it mattered the most.
Sunderland doubles for Roberts and Tighe
Savva Roberts took a double at Sunderland with Bockos Buster leading the way. He had suffered a surprise defeat last week and once more he was not quite as quick into stride as he can be, though his pace to the first turn blew his rivals out of the water. 26.86 is the seventh fastest time of the year over the 450m.
Mossend Lav brought up the double for Roberts in a sprint contest. He had only made it to the track for a race once since the middle of May but that didn't stop him showing smart pace to the bend after a slow start. That tardy exit helped him as he was able to check onto the rails and use that inside position to his benefit at the turn.
Another sprinter who is not the smartest trapper is Stuart Tighe's Vialli. He is able to make up for it with a serious turn of early pace which once more got him to where he needed to be by the time the first bend loomed. That is now four straight wins for him and a record of 7/10 since he joined Tighe.
Tighe's double came from Shelookslikefun who took the first open on the card. For a three-runner affair, it was a messy contest but she was in control of things from an early stage, running out a two-length winner in the end to add to an A3 win last time out. Just a June 25 baby, there is surely loads to come from her.
Last week there was a 16/1 win from Hollyhill King, able to back that up with another last night for Mark Bulmer, this time at 7/4. We said a week back that there was no fluke in his success, showing the best early pace and he got himself to the front at the first bend this time around to see off another decent field.
A week ago Toddys Wolf had been picked up in the dying strides by his Tom Heilbron-trained kennelmate Links Jester. Last night he reversed those positions, picking up Links Jester who had gone around in front. The pair are clearly closely matched at present which will make things tough for punters if there is a round three in seven days.
The final sprint contest on the card went the way of Kilshenane Diva for John Watson. This has not been quite such a happy hunting ground for her as Star Pelaw is, and she was not the quickest into stride here. She beat the only runner inside of her to the bend, however, which saw her able to take over the pace setting with some trouble outside of her.
