Towcester table sole Derby bid

News broke on Tuesday afternoon that Towcester were the only track to table a bid to host the 2027 English Greyhound Derby and beyond. The track have until the end of the month to add to that declaration of interest with a full pitch but with no track wanting to take them on, it is Towcester's in 2027.

The track have done a great job with the race over the last couple of years, with Mike Davis and Orchestrate taking over and improving the aesthetic of the venue hugely, with the action on the track helping to lift the race.

Towcester would surely have been favourite to land the bid anyway, but it is a shame that there was nothing tabled by any other track, especially given that Dunstall Park is the new jewel in the crown of the Arc portfolio and they tendered a bid for this year's race.

A potential bid from Dunstall Park didn't prove all that popular with a number of greyhound racing fans on social media but even still, it was a surprise that there was not any interest for the future from the Wolverhampton venue.

The 100th anniversary of the first English Greyhound Derby should be a huge celebration for the sport, so Orchestrate will have their hands full to make it the fitting event that it needs to be. Let's hope that the team there relish the opportunity, and push the experience to the level that is befitting the occasion.
