Open Championship launched at Monmore
Entain have announced that Monmore will be hosting an open championship for two months with prizes for runners split into two separate leagues for home and away runners.

Monmore will host an Open Championship
Entain are pleased to announce the launch of a new Open Championship at Monmore Green Stadium, a nine‑week competition designed to add further interest and recognition to our spring open‑race schedule. The series will run from 9 April to 11 June, with standings updated after each qualifying fixture.
The initiative features two separate leagues - one for Monmore‑based trainers and one for visiting handlers. Points will be awarded using the established Judgement Night format of 10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1, rewarding consistent performance across the period.
A total of £8,000 has been allocated for the competition, with £2,500 awarded to the top trainer in each league at the conclusion of the series. Runners-up will receive £1,000 and third place will receive £500.
We can confirm that the open race programme for the period will run as scheduled, with all open race results, minor and category three, counting towards the championship tables.
Promotion will take place through racecards, in‑stadium displays, and social media, with the stadium anticipating strong engagement from both local and visiting kennels.
Tony Williamson, Racing Manager said:
“We’re pleased to introduce a competition that highlights sustained performance over several weeks and brings an extra layer of interest to our open race schedule. It’s a chance to showcase the trainers who enjoy a particularly strong spell at the track during this part of the year.”
The championship will build steadily through the spring, culminating in the lead up to the David Lipsey Trophy on 18 June, providing a natural focal point for the closing stages of the series.
Paul Illingworth, Head of Stadia – Commercial added:
“The Open Championship is something that we are excited to get off the ground. We are confident of the success that this will bring and we are already planning to follow this up with similar events at Romford and Hove in due course.”
