PGR Puppy Derby trials on Saturday at Monmore as well as the Ladbrokes Winter Derby final

Super Saturday in prospect at Monmore

Woltemade and Ballymac Service, first and second in last week’s Arc Northern Puppy Derby, trial together at Monmore on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby at the Wolverhampton venue. 

A quality session at the Ladbrokes track also includes another finalist in Ted Soppitt’s Ballymac Buddy plus Nathan Hunt’s Goldcash Warrior, ante-post favourite for the Byker event, as a likely cracking entry for the £20,000-to-the-winner Category One readies itself for what should be a superb competition won last year by the Maxine Locke-trained Headford Dane.

Underground Arlo, withdrawn from the heats of the Ladbrokes Winter Derby, also makes his return at the same trials session as he nears a return. Paul Young’s two-year-old finished third in December’s Coral Olympic at Hove behind Proper Heiress. 

Saturday at Monmore also sees the rescheduled Ladbrokes Winter Derby Final which was voided at the weekend after Texas Jack was knocked over and ran out. He has been withdrawn along with Gary The Arb, so just four runners will head to traps for the £10,000 prize. 

Monmore racing manager Tony Williamson said: “We’ll go again for the Winter Derby on Saturday and, while unfortunately we’re low on numbers, there is huge quality still. And you can see the trials session beforehand is pretty good as well as we begin the countdown to the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby which is just always a brilliant competition.
