Greyhound Derby third bend timings - quarter-finals
The Star Sports & Orchestrate Ltd English Greyhound Derby is firmly at the business end of the competition now, with the quarter-finals producing more spectacular racing on Saturday night.
Deniro in front overall as well as to the third bend
The 28.21 from Ballymac Deniro led all runners on the clock in the quarter-final stage. His 15.64 was the quickest figure to the third bend so far in the competition, a couple of spots in front of Epic Ace's track record in the third round.
That has to be quantified with the slight rail adjustment that was done which has made a small difference to the figures, but it was still a time set that has to be given a huge amount of respect.
For the second week in a row the slowest to the third bend was Ballymac Duffle. He is a fascinating runner having broken the track record in each of the opening two rounds but walked out in round three and then overcame a serious bump on Saturday. There could be fireworks once more if he puts it all together again.
Lennies Eddie has been hugely consistent at Towcester with three wins and three runner-up efforts in his six runs at the track. He was electric to the third bend on Saturday night, just unfortunate to be in the same heat as Ballymac Deniro.

Ballymac sweep coming home
Liam Dowling has a remarkable 33% of the runners left in the Derby and they were the four quickest on the run home from the third bend. As shown on the figures above (and mentioned with Duffle), three of those four were the slowest trio to the third bend.
What makes them even more remarkable is that they all produced times that were so well clustered together. Deniro impressed by being able to maintain the gallop better than his rivals at the top of the quickest to the third bend.
Epic Ace continues to produced smart clocks throughout his races, making him the most consistent performer in the competition both to the third bend and then coming home.
