Plenty of St Leger & Birmingham Cup clues to be had at Nottingham greyhound track this evening

With the £20,000 to the winner Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger & the Arena Racing Birmingham Cup kicking off at Nottingham next Monday, plenty of clues can be found with trials before racing, along with several interesting open races this evening

The star name which appears on the trial sheet which takes place before tonight's race meeting is the Mark Wallis trained Mongys Wild. The multiple category one and track record holder was surprisingly beaten at odds of 1/11F in the Arena Racing Company Select Stayers over 730m by the Patrick Janssens trained Fabulous Heka last Monday, with some suggestions that he didn't look comfortable around the Nottingham circuit.

That theory will be put to the test this evening in no uncertain terms as he lines up in a two dog trial against kennel-mate and recent Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic at Monmore winner, Vhagar, and plenty could be taken from this match-up for next week's competition.

There are several other interesting greyhounds being put through their paces at the track before racing this evening

Sean Parker's Droopys Flare, who was due to line up in that Select Stayers contest won by Fabulous Heka last week but had to be withdrawn, lines also lines up in a trial over 730m while Clona Ice, who was beaten by Vhagar in that Summer Stayers Classic final at Monmore, lines up in a solo trial over 680m for Carol Weatherall

Diane Henry is represented by Savana Mongys and Savanaregimental, who face off in a trial over 500m, while Cartoonist, who was a very impressive winner of a six bend maiden contest at Yarmouth when last seen on the track for Craig Morris also has a spin round over the 500m distance.

Another unexposed runner over six bends is John Lambe's Flying Desire, who has won both of her previous two starts over Monmore's 630m trip having kept useful company over four bends. She lines up in a four bend trial against her kennel-mate, the useful staying greyhound Hurry Up Jordan

Apart from trials, there are six open races at Nottingham this evening which may also give some competition clues for punters, with a Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger Trial Stakes and two Arena Racing Company Birmingham Cup Trial Stakes amongst those six contests
