Popular Greyhound Derby tipping competition open for entries
Dave Branch ( @DaveATBranch) has been running tipping contests on Twitter, now X, since 2020 and has helped to raise thousands of pounds for various Greyhound Charities, with Home Run Hounds being this year’s Greyhound Derby tipping competition beneficiaries.

Popular Greyhound Derby tipping competition open for entries
The StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby kicks off on Thursday 8th May, and for six weeks, it is the focus of the Greyhound world. Everyone involved, whether as a punter, owner or trainer will have their opinions on who will win the Derby. Those either attending the action at Towcester or watching live on Gone To The Dogs on their phone, laptop or or tv will no doubt be trying to pick winners of each heat or will have a Nap selection on the card.
Well, if that’s the case, then you have the chance to win some money from your selections by entering a popular tipping competition and you can help raise money for Home Run Hounds in the process. Click here to view their website
Dave Branch ( @DaveATBranch) on X, is the organiser of the competition and speaking yesterday, he said “I started tipping competitions in 2020 after suggesting to Twitter friends that we could have a weekly tipping competition covering every race for the week at Doncaster with an entry fee of £20”.
“We then moved on to having tipping competitions for the English and Irish Greyhound Derby’s. Emma Gray and Wes Defaye have supported me in running the English and Irish Greyhound Derby tipping competitions, and over the last few years, I have been running regular monthly tipping competitions where 20% of all entry fees go to a Greyhound Charity. There are no admin fees for running the competition, so 80% of the entry fees go towards prizemoney, and the other 20% goes to charity”.
Branch has also received support from various owners, bookmakers and tracks who have made contributions to his competitions with various prizes.
He said “Eddie Goodall has been a massive supporter of the English and Irish Derby tipping competitions by adding additional money out of his own pocket to the overall prize pool and charity donations. Ben Keith and his team at StarSports have offered free bets as prizes, and there’s been support from Romford, Monmore, Hove, Crayford and Shelbourne Park who offered tables in the restaurant which I used in a prize draw for everyone who entered”
“There are currently 77 entries so far, each paying the £30 entry fee, and with 20% of the entry fee going to this year’s nominated charity Home Run Hounds, they are currently set to receive £472. In 2024, we raised £3,658 from entry fees which was sent to various Greyhound Charities throughout the year”.
“The is prize money available for a top 6 overall finish, the top scorer in the 1st and 2nd round and on the final night itself. After the Derby, we will be running competitions for the Sussex Cup, Regency, Irish Greyhound Derby, English Oaks, Eclipse and Olympic/Ballyregan Bob”.
Having personally entered several of the Greyhound Derby competitions in recent years, you will struggle to find a more organised and well-run competition. It’s easy to make your selections for each race and you will receive regular updates regarding your scores
Anyone who would like to enter can follow Dave on his X account and he will give you details on how to enter. @DaveATBranch
