Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes Final Preview
The £20,000 to the winner Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes Final is the highlight of Romford's twelve race open card on Friday night. We take a look at the big race and the supporting races on the card
Maiden action kicks off the action which could go the way of TIP TOP NITRO, who was denied in his double bid in top grade last time out, but had made all the running at that level previously and if able to break in the same fashion again here, then Katie O'Flaherty's runner could break his maiden tag at the first attempt. Paul Young's Patricias Gift has trialled well round here in recent weeks and could make his presence felt at the finish if able to gain a clear passage rounding the opening bends
Six bend action here which could go the way of Paul Young's DROOPYS ALLDEWAY, whose unbeaten run over six bends was ended when tasting defeat in the semi finals of the Champion Stakes, but he looks set to lead this field on the rails in the early stages and it that's the case, then he could take all the beating. Princess Matilda shared the spoils over course and distance last week and Gemma Evans's runner has been in good form in recent weeks but the biggest threat could come from Irene Barnard's Strathrannoch, who looked a touch unlucky when beaten behind New Destiny in the Champion Stakes semi finals and could land some compensation if up with the pace rounding the opening bends
Nathan Hunt's BRETONS GIRL was denied in her double bid last time out having trapped well and made all the running previously, but if she can produce a repeat of that performance again here, then she would have every chance of making all the running again. Table Talk has been running well in defeat in recent weeks but is sure to be staying on well in the later stages and Jane Craske's runner could go close to scoring again
Heat one of the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden Stayers which could go the way of Martyn Wiley's MIAMI YEATS. He stayed on well in defeat in his previous attempt over this 575m trip and although he has a tricky looking draw to work from out in trap three, he can show decent early pace and if able to turn the opening bends in a handy looking position, then he could prove too strong in the later stages. Crossfield Roger can be hit and miss from the traps but one of his better breaks would give Paul Young's runner every chance of making all the running
Paul Young's MY GIRL NAVY looks the one to beat in heat two of the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden Stayers. He pinged the lids and made all the running in grade action on Monday and a repeat of that performance could see him tough to reel in on the run for home. The main danger could arrive from Maxine Locke's Stouke Beyonce, who has a trick draw to work from but this extra distance could suit and if keeping out of trouble in the early stages, then she could feature in the final outcome
£500 awaits the winner of this A7 Sweepstakes final. Tommy Batchelor's Naughty Dream was narrowly denied in her bid to land the four-timer by the Gemma Evans trained Butdarewasashark, who came from off the pace on that occasion, but GOULANE VEGAS landed the four-timer of her own last time out when leading round the opening bends and Dave Mullins's improving January 24 youngster could be the one to beat if able to hit the front down the middle again
Paul Young's YAHOO MAREIKE was well fancied when trapping well and making all the running last week and despite a tricky looking draw to work from out in trap four, she could be the one to beat again here if able to produce a repeat of that performance. Dave Lee's Queen Sinead looks set to lead on the rails in the early stages and she could prove to be the main danger if able to build up an early advantage of her own
The Maurice Newman Memorial Marathon takes place over 750m and it could go the way of Michelle Brown's CRAFTY PROSPERO, who has overcome trouble in running to score in his last couple of starts over this course and distance and it would be reasonable to think that he could land the hat-trick in this field if he can gain a clearer passage at the vital times. Kennelmate Gothic Kitty looks set to lead this field out wide and is more than capable of making all the running again as she has done so on several occasions of late, while Innfield Fifi has a tricky draw to work from but Paul Young's runner chances of scoring would increase if able to head across to the rails with an early advantage
The Coral Romford Guys And Dolls Final is worth £5,000 to the winner and is an open looking contest but despite having been beaten in his last two starts by the improving John Mullins trained Ted On Fire, BRINDLE BULLY could still be the one to beat. He has had excuses for those defeats having found trouble in running but the Dave Mullins runner has a good draw out wide being the sole wide runner but can do things either way in this field and a clearer run round the opening bends could see him tough to hold late. Ted On Fire has made all the running in both heat and semi final showing cracking early pace in doing so and another fast start would give him every chance of landing the hat-trick, while Kim Billingham-Hine's Newinn Souly is more than capable of making all the running on the rails if he can produce one of his better breaks against the rails
New Destiny won the final of the the 2024 £20,000 to the winner Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes last October when going unbeaten throughout the competition, and Mark Wallis's runner could be set to repeat that feat again here having gone through the heats and semi final of this year's renewal undefeated and if able to hit the front at any stage of this contest, then she could prove tough to beat. Kennelmate Fabulous Sonique tasted big race success here earlier in the year when landing the final of the Coral Coronation Cup and she will be looking to add another title to her c.v if able to hit the front in the early stages but will find Belinda Green's Gary The Arb tough to clear in the early stages. He has a cracking record over course and distance and was denied in his bid to land the five timer last week by TIFFIELD TARQUIN, who has made all the running in both starts over this distance, and having shown serious early pace when making all the running in his semi final, Roy Peckham's runner could be set to land this final if able to break in the same fashion again here and could prove tough to reel in. Nathan Hunt's Untold Paanga made all the running from a tough draw in the semi finals but may find it tough to do so again with plenty of early pace on his inside, while the Seamus Cahill trained Moving Force is sure to be staying on well in the later stages though may need some luck in running rounding the opening bends in order to feature in the final outcome
CAPEL MOON was in good form over the six bend distance during August but having been off the card since then, makes her comeback outing back over four bends and Tony Gifkins will be hoping that she could make it a winning comeback if able to hit the front on the rails rounding the opening bends. Uncle Ed can be hit and miss from the traps but if he can repeat the performance of his victory on October 3rd, then Paul Young's runner would have every chance of getting back to winning ways here
A competitive looking six bend contest to end the card with and it could go the way of Belinda Green's TEDDIE. He will need to ride his luck in the early stages from a tricky looking draw but she can stay on well in the later stages and if the gaps can open up at the vital times, then she could prove too strong at the finish. Newinn Cloud is capable of doing things either way in this field and has been running well in recent weeks, and Mark Wallis's runner could get back to winning ways if able to hit the front at any stage
