Proper Heiress could head to Irish Derby next

A tilt at the BoyleSports Irish Derby could be on the cards for Proper Heiress, according to his trainer Mark Wallis.

Proper Heiress recorded his four Category One victory – and his third of 2025  - when completing an unbeaten run through the Coral Sussex Cup at Hove with a dominant success in a smart 29.64 on Saturday night.

A return to Monmore for the Gold Cup has been ruled out and Ireland may beckon for the MWD Patrnership-owned dog.

Speaking to the Racing Post, Wallis said: “He’s come off sound and looks in great form.

“Me and Mike (Davis, owner) are away together this week so we’ll discuss the plans and logistics of everything like that.

“We’re definitely not going to Monmore for the Gold Cup. He was so good there (when winning the Winter Derby) and he loves it there, but I think he needs 500m-plus these days.

“Whatever we decide to do, I think we’ve got about three weeks before the Irish Derby starts so there’s plenty of time.”

Also making it three Category One wins for the year at Hove on Saturday was kennelmate Mongys Wild, who powered home to land the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency over 695m.

The long-term aim is the St Leger but the Select Stayers at Nottingham is next on his agenda.

“Nottingham will be the plan for him, he’s come off great as well,” added Wallis.

“After that, all being well, it will be the St Leger. I’ll have a look at the calendar and work out an exact plan for that, but that’s his next main competition.

“Hopefully, we’ll get Garfiney Blaze back for that as well. His foot injury is getting better.”
