Heiress heads to the top of the Irish Derby betting

Proper Heiress took the plaudits in the third round of the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby on Saturday night at Shelbourne. The raider is one of three dogs left in the competition who are yet to taste defeat and has joined Cheap Sandwiches at the top of the betting after beating the 2024 runner-up in a pulsating clash.

Four veterans made the list this week as well as one who is less than a month away from that age. Glengar Martha is the one who is still just the right side of her fourth birthday, winning her opening round heat of the Galway Oaks in the quickest time of the year so far. Kapuka Warrior is probably the most regular winner of this award overall and once more he produced the best run at Kilkenny this week.

At the other end of the age spectrum, there were also four ‘24 whelps Ballymac Setanta picked up the Limerick award in back-to-back weeks with his Joe Mangan Memorial final success, rocketing clear by nine lengths. A nod also to Saorlaith who equalled his personal best at Lifford, tying the second quickest 325y time of the year.

Another King Sheeran on the list is Danish Dez. He had already shown plenty of ability in a pair of sprints, landing a 525y contest at the first time of asking. Gunner Jo produced a new fastest of the year over Mullingar’s 400y distance. It was a career-best by quite some margin, so it will be interesting to see if he is able to back this effort up in the coming weeks.
