Charity auction underway

After the Derby lunch was over on Monday afternoon a charity auction to benefit retired greyhounds was launched with the help of Greyhound Trader with four choicely bred pups up for auction.

The price of each pup started at £2,000 with all four of them already attracting bids, and of course the more that these go up, the more that is raised for the rehoming charities.

All the current bids can be found here with the auction running until midday on Sunday.

De Lahdedah X Ballymac Sahara

No surprise to see this lad as the top lot at time of writing. By a Derby winner out of a bitch who had a Derby semi-finalist in her first litter in Ballymac Iroko and bred at a kennel who are responsible for 60% of the Star Sports & Orchestrate English Greyhound Derby field.

A March 26 whelp, there are four pups who could be the one for you with the ear markings being provided to the eventual buyer and rearing at Ballymac until the end of June.

Epic Ace X Good Arminta

With Epic Ace setting the Towcester track record in the quarter-finals of the Derby, his stock is going to be high straightaway for his offspring. A bitch is up for auction here, an August 25 whelp who can be reared on by the Kennedys until she is 12 months old.

She is out of a dam who has thrown a 28.43 Tralee dog in her first litter, and they won't be two until September. The dam is closely bred to Ballymac Deniro, out of the same dam. She is by Ballymac Cashout rather than Ballymac Finn who sired Deniro, but both of those sires are by Droopys Sydney.

Broadstrand Syd X Wide Open

On offer from Townview Kennels is a January 26 dog by one of the quickest dogs to grace Ireland in the last few years, the 2024 Sprinter of the Year Broadstrand Syd. The Irish Sprint Cup winner that year, he set the clock for the 400y at Dundalk in that competition.

His dam Wide Open was unlucky to be knocked out of the third round of the English Derby back in 2022, with her first litter (September 24) making a solid start to racing, including a 28.55 winner at Shelbourne on Friday night.

King Sheeran X Droopys Lorie

The final lot for sale comes from Droopys Stud. A March 26 bitch pup, she is by one of the most popular dogs on the UK circuit for a long time in King Sheeran. He was a multiple Cat One winner, including a Produce Stakes.

Droopys Lorie has one litter of racing age which includes Droopys Trigger who is an open race winner at Sunderland, Doncaster, Newcastle and Sheffield and Droopys Runaway who has a 664m open success at Central Park to his credit.
