Family memories for Morton to cherish
Robert Morton, son of Westmead Hawk’s owner Bob, said Nick Savva and the dual Derby champion brought the family the “happiest of times”.
Of the legendary breeder and trainer, Morton jnr said: “We became aware of Nick’s illness and are obviously very sad to hear the news of his passing. Dad is not so well just now and is just out of hospital, but I know how much respect he had for Nick.
“Nick and my dad’s relationship lasted the test of time due to the respect they both had for each other’s work ethic and point of view and fundamentally the trust they had in each other.
“Nick brought some of the happiest times and memories to us, the Morton family, and enabled my dad to fulfil his dreams of having an English Derby winner.
“My dad continued to own dogs up until about eight years ago, but every Christmas he would come over and visit Nick from Jersey. They used to walk around the kennels and then sit in his living room and reminisce about all the amazing dogs which they had and all those happy memories.
“It’s really an end of an era, but the legacy that Nick leaves will always be remembered in greyhound racing and will always be remembered within our family.”
