22/1 Romford double for O'Flaherty

Raha Stevie was the sole high point for favourite backers from Romford's Wednesday night opens, taking a 400m contest for Katie O'Flaherty. The January pup has been in flying form of late, winning an A9 as recently as August 8 before victories in A7, A5, A4 and A3. His open race win came with a bold front-running display to bring up a hat-trick of victories for him.

At the other end of the betting market was My Storm Libby who won the first open on the card to start the O'Flaherty double. She too made every yard of the running, making a big step forward on her 400m form on just her second attempt over this far. It was a third win in her last four starts, so she is clearly in good heart with herself at present.

A railer drawn widest of all in a four-runner affair. it looked tricky for Zenith Jimbombom on paper with plenty of early pace inside of him. David Mullins's charge was smart though, tracking the pair who had beaten him to the punch into the opening bend, biding his time, before delivering his perfectly-timed challenge to get his head in front in the final strides to nail Paul Young's Vahbelle.

Young had picked up a winner earlier on in the night with Bubbly Fury. The veteran showed plenty of dash to the turn to secure a 17th career success just two days shy of the second anniversary of his race debut for Young. This success added to his 12/1 sprint win a couple of starts back, with the recent drop back to two bends suiting him well.

Bacon Burrger backed up her win from last Wednesday night with another, showing her trademark early dash to draw out just enough of a lead to hold on by a short head. The runner-up Blackburny found a few trouble spots on the way round to deny him the win but Paul Burr's runner got herself to where she needed to be which made all the difference.

The other 400m open on the night went to Marlene Westwood's Mob Moretti. As was par for the course on the evening, he popped out in front to make all of the running, and he too held off a strong-running closer from the Martyn Wiley kennel in Raha Jayjay who had been bumped early on.
