Romford's crowd numbers continue to impress

Romford general manager Karen McMillan has been thrilled with how well the track has fared in terms of Christmas bookings and crowd numbers at the Essex venue, but was especially proud of how the track was able to pay tribute to the memory of one of their former trainers on Friday.

The Yvonne Gaskin Memorial Race, a £750-to-the-winner one-off invitation, remembered the popular former handler whose passing in 2020 is still felt, but whose connection with Romford remains through her daughter Gemma Evans, one of the most successful trainers at the London Road venue.

“And Gemma had a runner in Friday’s race and I know would love to have won it again,” said GM McMillan.

“However, it was very much well done to Paul Burr and his team after Tally Ho Socks won the race in good style.

“Gemma made the presentation and was joined by friends and family plus the owners of Tally Ho Socks, the Supa Racing syndicate. It was a nice way to remember Yvonne - on another busy night here.

"In fact, we had a tremendous weekend. Overall numbers have been really good, there was a great atmosphere on both Friday and Saturday nights, and the staff are playing a blinder. They're working really hard, but we're all in the Christmas spirit, and that's coming across to our customers I know."
