It has been pleasing to see the comeback of Wicky Ned going so well. Runner-up in the final of the Time Northern Flat at Newcastle, he set the standard with his win in the first round of the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore last Saturday night. It has been 13 months since he last sported the red jacket, a close second to subsequent Irish Derby winner Cheap Sandwiches on that occasion in the Dundalk International. He has six wins from nine starts from the inside box, finishing runner-up in his other three. 

There has been a single win from Droopys Pioneer so far in his short career, scoring at Towcester in a 460m contest. Red is probably not his ideal starting position but he might cause more trouble for his rivals than he will from himself from this position and he has been taking on some better types than these, so should be able to over come that.

Rapido Benny was ultimately well beaten last week in his heat of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic but he led Vhagar for four of the six bends. That was eye-catching enough to think that he may well be able to lead these a merry dance from his inside draw once more. The winner of the Greyhound Trader Stakes over 500m on Derby final night, he has made a decent transition to six bends with a pair of wins at Star Pelaw before coming here. This trip looks far enough but he might be able to slip into a big enough lead.
