Shadow Storm to defend Scurry Title
Charlie Rees has said that Shadow Storm is on track to return to Dunstall Park to defend his Arc Scurry Gold Cup title.
Dunstall set for return champion
Shadow Storm is heading back to Dunstall Park for a defence of his Arena Racing Company Scurry Gold Cup title, the sprinters' Classic.
Richard Rees's GBGB Sprinter of the Year flew round home track Hove in a super-slick 16.11sec for the 285m trip before racing on Thursday and will look to be a rare back-to-back winner of the sprinters' Classic which gets Category One status this year.
Edged out by kennelmate Avarua Lake on his last appearance in the Coral Sussex Cup Sprint Trophy Final on Sussex Cup and Regency final night in early August, Shadow Storm has been kept to trials since but is ready to return to the track at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
"He's come out of Thursday's trial well and it's definitely Dunstall for him now," said Charlie Rees, kennelhand to his dad Richard. "We know he runs the track well and ran great there last year, even in the semi-finals of the Scurry when he had that great battle with Bockos Buster.
"He showed all his class in the final and, while we know it's going to be a hot competition, especially now it's a Cat One, we know what he's all about."
The Arena Racing Company Scurry Gold Cup, which shares the stage with the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks from the second round of the bitches' Classic onwards, closes to entries on Tuesday, October 6.
Heats are on Saturday, October 10, with the semis on Saturday, October 17, and the £10,000 final on Saturday, October 24.
