Standard stepping up at Valley
Valley has been welcoming more outside runners and trainers for trials ahead of two major events at the venue in south Wales.
The SIS British Bred Standard over 460m closes to entries at noon on Wednesday and begins on Sunday, with the £3,000-to-the-winner final a week later, while the historic Welsh Derby has also been re-introduced.
Also over 460m and a Category Two event, entries close on Thursday, September 17, with the heats on Sunday, September 20, the semis on Saturday, September 26 and the £5,000-to-the-winner final on Saturday, October 3.
Originally part of UK greyhound racing's triple crown alongside the English and Scottish Derbys and staged for many years at Cardiff, it was first run in 1928 and last staged in 1977.
Three greyhounds have won the triple crown. They are Trevs Perfection in 1947, Mill Bush Pride (1959) and Patricias Hope (1972), the latter famously one of only four greyhounds to win back-to-back English Greyhound Derbys.
