Duke rules at Swindon

There were only two opens at Swindon on Tuesday evening, as Southfield Duke (3/1) got back on the winning trail in the Blunsdon Standard over 476m.

Newinn Sharky headed for the rails from trap four, which gave Southfield Duke a lovely run to the bend and Paul Foster’s dog was able to turn in front along with Eze.

The latter forged slightly ahead down the back straight as the pair got in a duel for the lead, but it was Southfield Duke who went on from the third bend and pulled clear for a comfortable victory in 28.29 (-10).

Cul Na Braithre stayed on strongly for second and was beaten by a length and a half at the line, with Baggios Intent a further length back in third.

There was a bit of a shock in the Blunsdon Stayers as Baggios Dilemma made all at 8/1 in 41.72 (-15).

Frank Bryce’s dog capitalised on a nice draw on the rails to pace up into an early lead and he stayed there for the remainder of the 682m contest.

The winner was pressed by 6/5 favourite Invergarry for much of the race, but it was Ballymac Mags who kept on to claim second and the runner-up was beaten a length and a quarter in  he end.
