Smart victory for Thats Mikeys 

Thats Mikeys (Bogger Hunter x Ladyswell, May ’24) impressed onlookers after his debut victory in race two at the Brandywell meet on Monday. Despite a slow start from trap 3, this striking, white and black 80-pound long striding puppy quickly asserted himself with enough early pace to take the lead at the first corner. With an easy and smooth running action around the bends, he extended his advantage down the home straight, securing a win by 2.75 lengths in a decent 17.01 over the 300-yard trip. He seems set for a promising future under the ownership of Pat Barrett.

There were three other sprint events on the card.  Itsdowntoyou (Ballymac Best x Droopys Theme, Feb ‘23) won the opener in 17.35 for Brendan Harkin. It was a tight buckle right to the line against Golan Jacob, who was a galant short-head runner-up.

From trap 6, Ballyskeagh Nova (Ballymac Vic x Avongate Nova, Jun ’23) utilized her draw to full advantage in race six, leading from trap rise and finishing as a comfortable 3.25-length victor in 17.05. This marked her third career win under Patrick Gibson and Paul O’Neill’s ownership.

In the concluding the sprint race, Eamonn Curran's Meet More Often (Magical Bale x Maid Me Country, Aug ’22) delivered another stellar performance in the event finale. Flashing out from trap 2, she maintained her lead throughout and crossed the finish line in a fast 16.76, 2.5 lengths clear of Skywalker Voyage. This marked her 11th career success and a personal best time for over 300 yards.

There were three x 500-yard races also on the programme.

Race three, the Follow @UKGREYSALES for UK Sales, was sponsored by Nathan Corden.  Cyril O’Hagan’s Ghetto Horizon (Ballymac Cashout x Donna Rose, Aug ’23) claimed a decisive four-length victory in 28.58 after seizing her opportunity to lead at the first turn. She’s a lovely prospect as her grand dam is Forest Natalee and her dam has thrown some talented hounds in her first litter.

In a thrilling race four, Sprintinthesky (Ballymac Inspeed x Our Ginger Rose, Mar ’23) clinched the win by a neck over Promises to Keep, finishing in a respectable 28.01.

Ballyquin Tilly (King Elvis x Townsend Beauty, Oct ’23) demonstrated her trademark early gears in race five, winning by 1.75 lengths in 28.26, a reminder of her determination up front for owner Kirsty Harpur.
