"The Stud Book is so valuable as a protector of the purity of the greyhound breed"
Liz Mort has said that despite the GBGB launching their own registration service for British bred pups, the Greyhound Stud Book is here to stay.

Greyhound Stud Book is here to stay
Liz Mort, chair of the British Greyhound Breeders Forum, says the Stud Book is here to stay and reminds breeders that litters can still be registered with it.
Mort, also Keeper of the Greyhound Stud Book, was speaking in response to a new registration service launched by the GBGB and published here earlier this month.
She said: "I would like to assure breeders that the Stud Book is absolutely not ceasing to register litters and will still be providing individual pups with Stud Book ID cards, as we have done since 1882, when the first volume of the Greyhound Stud Book was published.
"That will not stop and I'd like to remind breeders that the GBGB itself has said their system is not a replacement for the Stud Book, rather an alternative, and we would still like these same litters to be registered with us.
"That's because EVERY greyhound ever registered to race in Britain, Ireland, America, Australia and New Zealand since 1882 can trace its breeding directly back to the dogs named in the first volume of the Stud Book in 1882.
"That is why the Stud Book is so valuable as a protector of the purity of the greyhound breed.
"This situation arose due to delays that had built up around my ill health. However, that backlog has now been cleared.
"I've put in place a new system here of naming and registration which gets pups eligible for racing more quickly, and we are always looking into ways of generally speeding up the process.
"Everything is back to normal and I look forward to adding to the Stud Book database many other British-bred stars - from the Westmeads, through to the Kings and Queens, the Romeo dogs and the Fabulous bitches of the current era.
"I am especially looking forward to continuing to work with breeders, trainers and owners who understand why it is important that their pups are Stud Book greyhounds whose breeding can be traced back to the champions of the past."
