Thursday Open Report - Knight and Green doubles at Hove
Hopes Kitty (6/4f) ran out as an impressive winner of heat one of the Coral 500 Standard Trophy at 7.49 with a quick-away-made-all success in 29.25. The January 2023 daughter of Tullig Cyrname broke level but paced up well into the corner to hit the front and drove the bend to lead out the second bend, with crowding behind, Kitty kicked for home and was half a dozen lengths clear at the third bend. Hopes Kitty went on to record a four-length win with Gucci Detail (T5) getting up for second with Kelvins Hat (T4) in third.
Heat two of the Coral 500 Standard Trophy looked a match on paper and that’s exactly how the race went, with Missile One (T3) and So Cool (T4) separated by a short head at the winning line with the Seamus Cahill-trained Missile One getting the verdict. At the boxes, Missile One trapped well and was half a length clear of So Cool as they approached the first bend. So Cool then roared into the corner and attempted to lead round but bumped into Missile One on his inside. The scene was set as they battled down the back straight neck to neck with nothing to separate the pair. At the third bend, So Cool edged ahead and Missile One checked behind and suddenly had a length to make up off the final bend. As they approached the line, Missile One stuck his neck out and grabbed the victory, recording 29.38 in a thrilling race. So Cool finished second with Bowmers Wildcat back in third.
Heat Three at 8.24 saw Mossrich Kylie in T3 line up against Ballymac Kinga in T6. The bookmakers couldn’t separate the pair with them going off as 11/8 joint favourites. All eyes on the break here with both capable of flashy exits. As the lure went past the boxes, both trapped well but it was Mossrich Kylie with the inside line that led round from T3. Crossfield Roger (T4) paced up well to challenge and gave Ballymac Kinga a bump and suddenly Kylie was three lengths clear out of the second bend. Kinga showed excellent middle gears to get that distance down to a length and three quarters at the winning line, but he couldn’t reel in the impressive winner, Mossrich Kylie, who recorded 29.37 following a flashy 3.54 sectional.
The Coral Thursday night 695 Maiden Stayers open race at 8.41 over the six-bend trip looked ultra-competitive on paper with plenty in with chances. Eternal Spirit from T2 started as the 15/8 favourite for the event with Empiricism next in at 9/4 from T1. Zenith Angel (T4) trapped well and led round on six-bend debut with Glenmavis (T5) on her tail in second. As they hit the fifth bend, Zenith Angel was going into unknown territory. Will she stay and claim the victory? Glenmavis set her sights on the leader and got up right on the line to record a head victory in 42.04. Zenith Angel lost nothing in defeat and looks like a nice prospect. Race favourite Eternal Spirit finished third, two and a quarter lengths behind the winner.
At 8.59 in heat one of the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy, all eyes were on the Belinda Green-trained youngster Raebella Bullet from T3. The July 2023 daughter of Good News was sent off as the 15/8 favourite on debut in the Churchfield Syd Happy Retirement At Stud open race on Saturday evening on Gone To The Dogs – Live! but was badly crowded at the first bend and eventually finished fourth. Last night, on only her second ever appearance at the track, she turned second behind Taylorstown Jet (T5) and then showed nice pace to hit the front out of the second bend and kick half a dozen lengths clear down the back straight. That was a hugely impressive turn of pace, and she looks like a top-class prospect for the kennel. Raebelle Bullet clocked 29.63, with further improvement likely over the coming weeks and months she's one to keep on side. Yougo Dixie (T4) finished second beaten five and three-quarter lengths with Rebel Charles (T2) back in third.
Heat two of the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy also went to the Belinda Green kennel with Pawsome Bullet (T1) taking the race in 29.72 as the 5/6 favourite. Head For Home (T4) was taken out of the race lame so just four lined up over the four-bend 500-metre trip at the Nevill Road venue. Clona Bingo trapped well from T6 and hit the front early on. Pawsome Bullet paced up well following a tardy exit and turned in second, race on. Off the final bend they were neck and neck but Bullet drove the bend well and hit the front to record a half-length victory at the line.
