Thursday's Tips 

*** Singalong Cherry - 8.01 Newcastle

** Clonbrien Piper - 8.19 Newcastle 

* Slingshot Gazza - 7.11 Newcastle 

There was only a head between Singalong Cherry and Fabulous Harmony when they met last week. Neither of them got a clean run around but given it was the race debut at this track of the former, she is the one who is going to have the most improvement to come at this venue. She won't be able to be as slow into stride this evening with the smart Naochra inside of her, but she has the ability to come away far better and the class to see these off. 

The staying contest at 8.19 is an absolute cracker. Droopys Bookem is the forecast favourite, returned to six bends after being outpaced over 480m when returned to this track last week. He was well behind Brunssum Bubble on that occasion and was not making ground quicker enough on the pickup to be sure to turn it around. Clonbrien Piper almost nicked the Select Stayers from the front at Nottingham and his six bend form at Sheffield was quicker than Brunssum Bubble. This is a different track of course but he has fewer miles on the clock and strikes as a very interesting runner here. 

A sprint contest is the first open on the night and a return to this track should suit Slingshot Gazza. He made the semi-final stage of the Arc Scurry Gold Cup recently which showed that he is in very good form at present, and this is his venue. He was the quickest of the year here in 2025 and his August win is the quickest of 2026, taking over from Slingshot Poppy at the top of the list, which shows the level of form he is capable of at Newcastle.
