It's the opening round of the TGN Northern Flat and the Arena Racing Company Angel of the North at Newcastle this evening, so we head there for our three selections.
Thursday's Tips
*** Woltemade - 9.11 Newcastle
** Wipe The Slate - 6.53 Newcastle
* Grouchos Gregor - 8.01 Newcastle
Woltemade has not been seen since taking the final of the Harry Burton Memorial Trophy back in May but he flew around in a recent trial to suggest that he is very much ready to rock and roll here. He also landed the Northern Puppy Derby final over track and trip back in February, and with plenty of love for this track, he can make the perfect start to his campaign.
Things have not gone quite so well for Wipe The Slate since running up an excellent sequence of form in top grade here back in the spring. This is not the toughest heat in the competition by any stretch of the imagination, and a return to that level of form would make her the one to beat in this field.
The Kelly Wilton team are going to still be on a high after winning the Time Greyhound Nutrition Three Steps To Victory at Sheffield on Sunday. In Grouchos Gregor, they have a smart type who made a couple of finals in Ireland before arriving on these shores. He won on debut for the kennel at Nottingham and shaped very well in a trial at Newcastle. He is one to keep on the right side of.
