Thursday tips - 2nd October
Chris Oliver runs us through his three best bets for Thursday evening's card at Hove.

Thursday tips
***Clona Kody (T6, 8.24 Hove)
**Westwind Ace (T3, 7.49 Hove)
*Yougo Freddie (T2, 8.07 Hove)
Tonight’s focus is on Hove where there are 12 opens and the highlight is the Coral 500 Standard Trophy final
at 8.24.
Clona Kody (T6) was returning from three months off when making all with ease in the fastest heat a week ago and he can improve for that pipe-opener to follow up in this decider. The Richard Rees-trained wide seed looks to have the measure of his rivals for early speed and should take some catching once again.
There are also two heats of the Coral Winner Of One 500 Trophy on the menu at the Sussex track and Westwind Ace (T3) looks the one to beat in the first instalment at 7.49. Carl Gardiner’s dog ran out a comfortable trap-to-line winner in a maiden contest a week ago and a repeat of that calculated 29.47 would give him strong claims of completing a double. With a good draw in the white jacket, he can get first run once again.
It could be worth giving Yougo Freddie (T2) another chance in the second heat of the 500m competition. Seamus Cahill’s runner missed the break and never got a clear run when third as a short-priced favourite for a similar event last week, but he completed a graded hat-trick when landing an A1 in style before that. He can do it both ways and could break better now moved off the fence.
