Towcester Track and Competition Stats ahead of the Star Sports/TRC Greyhound Derby
We take a look over some of the track stats from Towcester and overall competition stats before the Star Sports/TRC Derby starts

Towcester Track Stats
While having the right dog for the occasion is a huge factor when it comes to finding a Derby winner, the way that the track runs is also going to be crucial to the outcome.
Previous Derby winners at Towcester
There have been six previous runnings of the Derby at Towcester. The greyhound sent off as the SP favourite for the decider is yet to win, with trap four taking three of the six renewals.
2017 - T4 Astute Missile (28/1) - Seamus Cahill
2018 - T3 Dorotas Wildcat (2/1) - Kevin Hutton
2021 - T6 Thorn Falcon (7/2) - Patrick Janssens
2022 - T4 Romeo Magico (5/2) - Graham Holland
2023 - T2 Gaytime Nemo (9/1) - Graham Holland
2024 - T4 De Lahdedah (5/1) - Liam Dowling
Irish trainers have won three in a row and hold a very strong hand again in 2025 with three of the top four in the ante-post betting all Irish trained.
Open races in 2025 so far
Stats are a little bit difficult to quantify for Towcester in 2025 given that even the open races have been suffering from a lack of runners.
According to Greyhound Stats these are the winning percentages of each trap in 500m open races at Towcester so far in 2025.
Trap 1 - 24/110 - 21.8%
Trap 2 - 23/107 - 22%
Trap 3 - 25/107 - 23.4%
Trap 4 - 15/105 - 14.3%
Trap 5 - 14/96 - 14.6%
Trap 6 - 15/88 - 17%
That is pretty typical of Towcester with wide runners at a disadvantage. Three of the top four in the ante-post betting at present have a wide tag on them, Bockos Diamond, Bombay Pat and Cheap Sandwiches. That adds further intrigue to an already fascinating competition.
Other Greyhound Derby stats
- Jaytee Jet in 2016 was the last winning favourite of the final. In fact, the Paul Hennessy-trained winner is the only successful SP favourite in the last 13. In those last 13 races, seven of the winners have been priced at 5/1 or bigger and three of 13 were 8/1 or bigger.
From 1996-2000, however, five straight SP favourites won the final!
Don't be put off by a wide outsider. Salad Dodger was 500/1 in the ante-post markets before claiming the 2014 Derby for Bruno Berwick!
Four women have trained the winner of the Derby. Marie Yate (Fine Jubilee, 1936), Barbara Tomkins (John Silver in 1970 and I'm Slippy in 1983), Gwen Lyn (Tartan Khan, 1975) and Dolores Ruth (Shanless Slippy, 1996). Maxine Locke has a powerful team in a bid to add her name to the list this year.
Litter brothers have made the final in both 1967 and 2018, there are a number of litter siblings taking part this year, most notably Bockos Diamond and March On Freddie.
The youngest winner was Daws Diamond in 1953 at the age of just 22 months.
