Open report

It was a good night for favourite-backers at Star Pelaw on Tuesday as four of the five opens went to the market leader.

Arguably the pick of the bunch was Marleypark Ken, who produced a demolition job when landing the Star Pelaw 435 Winner Of One.

Glenn Foot’s charge justified 4/9 favouritism in style as he paced up nicely into an early lead and maintained a furious march to score by six and a half lengths in 25.95 (-10).

The other 435m open contest saw the Scott Storrie-trained Marymount Joy power clear of fellow 11/10 joint-favourite Catch The Wind to strike by three and three-quarter lengths in 28.26 (-10).

The Star Pelaw Maiden Stayers Trophy over 590m was all about Ballyhimikin Ivy, an easy winner for Dean Blackbird in 36.52.

The 1/2 favourite ran well in defeat in a better contest over the same course and distance 10 days earlier and made no mistake as she dropped in class for this assignment.

She hit the front off the second bend and stretched clear of her rivals to cross the line six and a quarter lengths clear of runner-up Annadown Debbie.

Haywards Ava (11/10fav) won the first open on the card as Rob McCarthy’s runner stayed on to get up late in the maiden sprint in 14.97, while the Frank Kearney-trained Shelone Nifty made all in the other 245m contest and she won well in 14.52 (-5) at 100/30.

Upcoming opens

Friday: Dunstall Park-Romford

Sunday: Sheffield
