Sals Simba has not done anything wrong in his first five career starts despite what four runner-up efforts might suggest. He's a leggy baby who is still figuring things out, and when he does, those wins will start to flow for him. He trapped better than he has ever done in his sole trial over this distance, just run down close home by one who has won an A3 in a flying 29.17 since and was an A1 winner back in February. Sals Simba runs in A5 for this first 500m attempt and could have got in lightly.
Despite dipping under 16.40 in her last two starts, Grangewood Hope has managed to run into a faster one in those D4 contests. She beat a couple of these rivals in the most recent of those starts and has a prior D4 win herself back in August. A repeat of those last two times should be enough to see her home in front.
One who might be a big bigger price is Salacres Machine. He had a run to blow away the cobwebs earlier on in the month, his first outing for more than four months when he ran in an A2. It's probably fair to say that he is not a natural sprinter and these races are being used to bring him back to full fitness for four bends again, but he is more than capable of going quicker than his 16.37 last time with a number of sub 16-second runs in trials to his credit. The 10/1 forecast in the trade paper would make him far too big.
