The 79th East Anglian Derby has reached the semi-final stage this evening with three crackers.

Semi-final one at 8.13pm has thrown up ante-post favourite Romeo Steel against Tiffield Tarquin from traps two and five. I have been bullish in saying Romeo Steel is three level breaks away from winning the completion and nothing has convinced me otherwise. He leads the field comfortably off a level break, so if he gets that he should safely qualify for next week's final with another victory under his belt, with Tiffield Tarquin following him home. He returned to action with a bang last week and looks the obvious forecast selection behind Romeo Steel.

8.31pm sees semi-final two where Kevin Boon’s new recruit Bockos Buster has set the East Anglian track alight in recent weeks including an impressive display in last week's heats. He should clear Aayamza Dreamer and Harlequin Gambit on his inside and that should set him up to go and score with Brindle Bully qualifying in second. He ran well behind Romeo Steel last week and should turn second to Bockos Buster where he can stay throughout.

Recent track record breaker Swift Depot lines up in semi-final three at 8.47pm from trap five looking to make it a five timer over C&D. He put in the performance of his life in the heats clocking 27.10 breaking the track record winning by seven lengths off a 5.08 sectional. All of his recent runs have been from trap six so as long as he traps in similar fashion from trap five he should book his place in a second consecutive East Anglian Derby final. However, I believe he will play second fiddle to Not So Steady from trap three. A level break sees him lead and he would not be for catching off the front.

There are two other competitions starting this evening with three heats of the MWD Partnership Sprint over 277m. Heat one at 6.31pm can see Two Slip Jigs from trap two continue his rich vein of form by getting the better of trap four Cassandras Girl. Trap one Grouchos King can see off Lissan Light from trap four in heat two at 6.48pm with Yahoo Megan in trap one coming on for her impressive 16.17 trial by getting the better of trap three Pavilion Team at 7.06pm.

Also sponsored by the MWD Partnership is the Derby Purse with three heats taking place over 659m. At 7.22pm trap five Cartoonist who looks an extremely promising type for Craig Morris can continue where he left off by winning comfortably ahead of Wrong Not Wright. Trap five Newinn Cloud can show his class in heat two at 7.39pm by dominating throughout with Outdoor Cracker chasing him home in second with heat three looking a much more competitive affair where Capel Rose in trap one can return to her home track with a victory beating Bish Bosh Bashy at 7.56pm.
