The Box Seat open race action

Romford will stage six open races as part of its Wednesday card which will feature on The Box Seat, Sky Sports Racing's new midweek greyhound show.

Seven outside entries were received by the London Road venue which once again names each of the races after Romford 'Greyts' - including the likes of former sprint track record holder Sandwichsunshine and Tims Crow, a Golden Sprint winner and Greyhound of the Year in 2003. He was trained by the late Peter Rich.

Ballyregan Bob, twice named Greyhound of the Year in 1985-86, is also honoured on the card as a former Essex Vase champion, as is the Linda Mullins-trained Palace Issue, winner of the Champion Stakes on his way to being Greyhound of the Year in 2000.

Other star names paid tribute by Romford on Wednesday include David Mullins's 1998 Champion Stakes winner Pottos Storm who also had the distinction of dead-heating for the Grand National the following year!

Barrie Draper's Romford Puppy Cup winner and former track record holder Eden Star, Golden Sprint hero Rail Mccoy, and those prolific 575m winners Fivestar Clipper (Derek Knight) and Desperado Dan (Patrick Janssens) also have races named after them.

The card, which will feature alongside Dunstall Park, also honours Salad Dodger, the fairytale winner of the 2014 English Greyhound Derby, who started his career in an A6 at Romford. He died last week, aged 14.
