A new greyhound racing podcast is 'Chasing Greatness'

New greyhound racing podcast launched 

A new three-way greyhound racing podcast has been launched with some very familiar names from the track behind it. 

Kennelhands Liam Aspin and Charlie Rees, plus leading British breeder Phil Milner, have got together for the Chasing Greatness Podcast - and the aspirational title of the pod gives a clue to what their intentions are. 

“It’s about celebrating greyhounds and greyhound racing,” said Liam, who works for champion trainer Mark Wallis having cut his teeth with Kevin Boon. 

“We’re in the business of chasing greatness,” he added. 

“The dogs do it literally, of course, and myself and Charlie love great dogs. We’ve both still quite young but have been lucky enough to have been associated with some real champions, me with Kevin and Mark, and Charlie with his mum and dad, Richard and Jackie. 

“Phil’s a bit older, of course - sorry Phil! - but he’s also chasing greatness in the litters he and Keeley (Cunningham, partner) have bred. They’ve also trained some top-class dogs, too. 

“It was Charlie who really got things moving after he came to me and said he wanted to do something which would promote and cover all things greyhound racing in the UK.

“I’d also spoken previously to Phil about something similar when we’d crossed paths at tracks, so we all came together, had a chat about it, and decided to kick on. 

“We talked how we wanted the show to look, and hopefully people can see from the first episode how we’re intending it to progress. 

“Obviously it’s still evolving and we’re miles off the finished article - none of us are professionals as such - but we’re enthusiastic and doing our best. 

“The plan is to record them fortnightly. However, we’re flexible and might go weekly if there’s some important news breaking. 

“We’ll introduce guests, but it’ll be different from other formats, in the sense that the guest will essentially become one of us for the show. They’ll muck in as opposed to being interviewed as such, although naturally there’ll be a segment where we ask them about themselves. 

“However, that’ll not be the main purpose of the show. We just want to showcase greyhound racing and highlight our love of the game. “I’m going to be the host, but I fell into that role really, and I think Charlie and Phil are more than happy for me to take the responsibility!”
