Acomb Felix looking to make it ten wins in a row in all Open Race card at Doncaster on Saturday night

Kevin Ferguson's star greyhound Acomb Felix will be looking to make it ten wins in a row as he eyes up a tilt at the forthcoming Yorkshire Derby at Doncaster

Having been considered unlucky by some for not being accepted into the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes at Nottingham last Monday, Acomb Felix will be looking to extend his winning run to ten at Doncaster on Saturday night in Heat 2 of the Doncaster 450m Standard Competition, which will no doubt be used in preparation for the Category Two £8,000 to the winner Yorkshire Derby, which gets underway at the track on Saturday 13th September.

Despite being a Category Two competition, the £8,000 winners prize makes it one of, or even the, most valuable Category Two competition in the calendar and having attracted a strong entry last year from the likes of Acomb Felix, Patrick Janssens, who entered greyhounds such as Romeo Steel, Romeo Command and beaten finalist Slick Sentinel.

Entries from trainers such as Jimmy Fenwick, Craig Morris and Tom Heilbron, whose Greenwell Coe made all the running in the final strengthened the competition, and Doncaster promoter Robert Watson, is hopeful of another strong entry this year

"We've had a few decent entries this week and as a result, have been able to put on a full open race card for Saturday night" he said

"We've got a lot more people wanting to come to the track as well over the next couple of weeks, and we have had a good deal of interest from trainers wanting to book trials, including a couple of trainers from down south in Maxine Locke and Gemma Evans"

"I think we will get another good entry this year and hopefully we will have enough so we can pick the best dogs and not have to use any graders to help fill it. I am on the lookout for new trainers though and we have got a couple of kennels that are available if required, so if there are trainers out there who are interested, then they can contact me at the track"

Sprint competition action kicks off the Doncaster card and it could go the way of the in-form Rental Crisis, who was a good winner at Nottingham on Monday when landing the hat-trick and David Fradgley's good year could continue with victory here, though local runner Mustang Mile has won his last four top grade sprint contests and has to be feared

Heat two could go the way of Westfield Bullet. Jason Smith's runner was well fancied when making all the running over course and distance last week and a repeat performance can see him going through to the final with the minimum of fuss. Local runner Keefill Halo has been in good form, winning her last two graded starts and has a decent looking draw to work from and may qualify for Phil Milner

A 483m competition this time and heat one could go the way of Rose Drapers two runners. Preference can be given to Ballymac Lawless, who takes on kennel-mate Slippy Keith again having met at Sheffield in recent weeks, and if leading on the rails, may just come out on top at the finish

Heat two is a cracker. Phil Milner's Keefill Goose made all the running in impressive fashion last week in a decent clock, and if breaking in the same fashion, then he can prove tough to beat. Recent Northern Flat winner Naochra is an obvious danger for trainer John Flaherty if anywhere near the pace in a race where a case can be made for all five runners

Puppy action this time and it could be another winner on the card for Phil Milner and Thequietman. He was a wide margin winner here last week and another fast start down the middle could see him land the double. Paul Prior's Keady Touch is two from two at Sheffield and has created a good impression, which is backed up from a good trial here last week and looks a danger to all

A maiden competition over 450m here and the first heat could go the way of Monmore trainer Pat Doocey with Longacres Lad. He ran well in defeat at Perry Barr last week and has kept decent company of late and could be set to break his maiden tag if keeping out of trouble in the early stages. Rose Draper's Ballintee Roxy moved well in a recent trial and looks a danger if coming on from that look round

Heat two could go the way of local runner On The Wall. Jimmy Gaskin's runner was an impressive winner of a B2 contest back in June and returns from a couple of runs away on the back of a useful sprint trial. If he leads here, he could take some catching, though Westfield Sniper has a good looking draw on the rails and could improve in a recent trial for trainer Jason Smith

Another maiden competition, this time over 483m and heat one could go the way of local trainer Kirsty Grayson and her runner Kilgarran Dolly. She landed a hat-trick of top grade wins last time out and has a cracking draw here, and if hitting the front, will take some catching. Monmore trainer Pat Doocey's Longacres Daddy is sure to be staying on well late and could make his presence felt rounding the final bends

Heat two is a tricky looking contest and could go the way of one of Phil Milner's two entries. On the back of a decent trial last week and a cracking draw,  preference is given to Epic Rebel having faced some tougher rivals in recent weeks,  but Snowfall would prove to be a danger, especially if up with the pace rounding the opening bends

Knockard Joe has won his last three starts here over course and distance, the latest victory last week coming the way of an all the way success and he could add to that tally again here if producing another fast from a good looking draw out wide for Paul Philpott, but Greenwell Bolt has been running well at Newcastle of late for John Flaherty and if in contact round the final bends, then he could make things interesting

A 450m Standard competition this time and heat one could go the way of another Phil Milner runner, Keefill Vale. She won in graded action in good fashion in the week and another lead on the inside could see her tough to reel in, though Paul Philpott's Toomevara Sheera can show a good burst of early pace and was a good runner up last week. He could be a threat if coming away again

The final race of the evening is a cracker. All eyes will be drawn to Kevin Ferguson's Acomb Felix as he looks to make it ten victories in a row and if hitting the front on the run to the first bend, then he will take all the beating. Phil Milner's Keefill Rocky has been off since April but re-news old rivalries with Acomb Felix as they have both beaten each other in previous contests, and having moved well in recent trials, could be set to run his rival close in his comeback outing
