Banksies Five to Follow- 3rd October
Each week I’ll be looking to find Five Puppies who have caught the eye in graded in action in the last week who could be worth following in the coming weeks.
Two winners from four runners again last week as firstly at Nottingham, Lynn Cook’s Jet Gunner followed up his victory on debut in A5 company when pouncing close home to land the double in A4 at 4/7F, while Fruity Bets, who just failed to make all the running in an A9 contest on debut for Dean Blackbird, was able to do so at Sunderland when making all at 5/4F

Moving on to this week:
AUDIENCE: Ran from Trap 5 in the 8.41pm at Sheffield on Friday 26th September (Runs today in the 7.16pm at Sheffield)
Rose Draper’s March 24 youngster improved on his debut outing when making all the running of an A5 contest in impressive fashion
Sent off at 5/2, Audience broke well from the traps to lead on the run to the opening bends, building up a lead of around a length and a half
Heading out of the second bend, that lead had doubled to three lengths, a lead which extended further still down the back, and heading into the third bend, he was five lengths clear of the opposition.
He was never in any danger at any stage, and every though he got a bit tired close home, he was still able to cross the line four lengths clear in 29.71 (-10), improving just under five lengths on his previous best time as a result
Hopefully the grader will only raise him just the one grade as a result, and if that’s the case, he would have every chance of landing the double in an A4 contest next time out
LONGACRES DIDDY: Ran from Trap 4 in the 12.42pm at Monmore on Saturday 27th September
April 24 youngster Longacres Diddy made a winning debut in A8 at Monmore on Saturday afternoon, and there looks more to come from him in the coming weeks
Pat Doocey’s runner broke on terms with three other greyhounds from the traps, but he showed the best pace to hit the front, even overcoming a slight bump from the runner in trap two as he cut in slightly on the run up.
At the first bend, he was then able to overcome a hefty bump from the runner in trap six who was challenging for the lead at the time, but he rode it well and coming out of the second bend, he was in front by two lengths.
That lead doubled down the back straight heading into the third bend, and extended even further as he came off the final bend. He was never in any danger of getting reeled in as he stayed on well to record a five and three quarter length victory in 29.12 (+10)
He only improved a length and three quarters on the clock, but the official comments don’t mention that he was bumped on a couple of occasions, so he may get just the one grade penalty next time out. Being so young, he is sure to improve anyway but could be a good bet in an A7 contest next time out so keep an eye out for when he next runs
SPA HILL : Ran from Trap 1 in the 3.11pm at Towcester on Sunday 28th September (Runs today in the 4.26pm at Towcester)
April 24 youngster Spa Hill made a winning debut for trainer Laura Pruhs in a D3 contest at Towcester on Sunday afternoon in the style of a greyhound to follow in the coming weeks
Sent off as 15/8F, he showed a good burst of early pace to hit the front on the run to the first bend, building up a length and a half. That lead increased to two lengths when coming off the final bend, and sticking to the inside, was able to record a length and three quarter length victory.
Breaking the 16.00 barrier at Towcester as an April 24 puppy on debut doesn’t happen everyday, and you would think there is plenty more to come from him in the coming weeks in D2 company
DISTANT LAYLA: Ran from Trap 3 in the 12.49pm at Romford on Tuesday 29th September
Dean Child’s April 24 youngster finished down the field on debut in A6 but showed that she had learned a lot from that run as she made all the running on Tuesday afternoon
Sent off at 9/4, she produced a 3.69 sectional, two and a half lengths quicker than she had previously produced in previous outings, enabling her to hit the front on the run to the first bend.
Despite the break, she was almost joined at the bend by the runner in trap five, but drove the bend better, and coming out of the second bend, she was in front by two lengths.
Maintaining that lead throughout, she stopped the clock in 24.38 (+10), just over three lengths quicker than her best previous time and if able to break in the same fashion next time out in A5, then she would have every chance of landing the double
HERE COMES TILLY : Ran from Trap 5 in the 2.41pm at Central Park on Thursday 2nd October
Dan Brabon’s March 24 youngster went close to making a winning debut in an A5 contest at Central Park on Thursday afternoon but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her going one place better next time out
A 2.99 sectional saw her bursting into a three length lead heading into the first bend, a lead which extended to four coming out of the second bend. That lead was maintained until the third bend as her rivals behind started to make inroads and coming off the last bend, she was just over a length in front
The writing was on the wall for those who backed her at 15/8F as she was picked up, but was only beaten in three quarters of a length in 30.01. That was an improvement on lengths on her best time in trials, but she is sure to improve.
Yes, she may have some stamina issues but she can get stronger and if able to break In that fashion again, then she win more than she loses at this level of A5
