Banksies Five to Follow- Friday 19th September
Each week I’ll be looking to find Five Puppies who have caught the eye in graded in action in the last week who could be worth following in the coming weeks.
Just the one winner from three runners last week. Banksman followed up his debut victory in B5 with a short head victory in B4. Susan Watson’s March 24 youngster was sent off the 8/11F, coming home in 28.35.

Moving on to this week:
BALLYMAC INDO: Ran from Trap 1 in the 7.33pm at Swindon on Friday 12th September
Angie Kibble often features in this column and she has another useful looking recruit in the kennel
Having made a winning debut in A6 company, Kibble’s May 24 youngster made it two wins from two starts in A5 last Friday
As with his debut victory last week, Ballymac Indo showed a good burst of early pace to hit the front, and had a minor coming together with the runner in trap two at the first bend, but off the second bend, he had built up a lead of a length and a half.
He never looked to be in any danger at all, and in fact, was able to draw further clear in the later stages, crossing the line four lengths clear in 29.13, returning at 9/4.
That time was another length quicker than his debut victory and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see yet more improvement again in the coming weeks
FLICKERING BELLE: Ran from Trap 1 in the 5.12pm at Swindon on Friday 12th September
A couple hours after Ballymac Indo’s victory, saw Peter Swadden’s March 24 youngster Flickering Belle making a winning debut in A7 company
When the traps opened, there wasn’t a burst of early pace, but she accelerated into the first bend where she hit the front, moving off from the rails slightly and out of the second bend, she has a lead of around a length and a half
That lead extended down the back and heading into the third bend, the margin was three and a half lengths. She never looked to be in any danger at any stage, and drew clear for a five and a quarter length victory in 29.15 at odds of 9/2
Having moved off slightly round the opening bend, she did look to take a more slightly middle course down the back and on the run for home, so maybe a draw in two may suit next time, but she improved eight lengths on the clock and is sure to receive a minimum of a two-three grade rise next time out, but is still worth keeping an eye on.
KENDER: Ran from Trap 1 in the 8.24pm at Hove on Saturday 13th September
Alfie Herbert’s Kender made a winning debut in A11 at Hove last Saturday and he looks one to keep on the right side of in the coming weeks
Sent off at 5/2, Kender showed a cracking burst of early pace to build up a lead of over two lengths heading into the opening bend
That lead just kept getting wider and wider, and heading into the third bend, the lead had grown to a good eight lengths, possibly even more, but unsurprisingly having set such a ferocious pace, the gap diminished in the later stages but was able to cross the line in front a length and a half clear of his rivals in 30.65 (+10) at 5/2
He improved five lengths on the clock with that performance and if he can keep on producing a similar burst of early pace, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to him scoring again, though he could expect to receive a two grade penalty as a minimum next time out
SCARSDALE SUE: Ran from Trap 4 in the 12.26 pm at Dunstall Park on Monday 15th September (Runs tonight in the 8.31pm at Dunstall Park)
Dunstall Park’s first meeting open to the public takes place tonight, and punters could do worse than taking a second glance at Paul Meek’s Scarsdale Sue, who runs in the 8.31pm contest.
The March 24 youngster took advantage of a drop in grade last time out in A5 when producing her best break at the track so far, and as a result, was up with the pace into the first bend.
However, so were three other greyhounds and she got caught up in some minor trouble on a couple of occasions, but having got across to the rail, turned the second bend challenging the leader. She poked her head in front down the back straight and built up a lead of just over a length heading into the third bend, a lead that was maintained when crossing the line to score by a length and a quarter in 29.14 (-10) at 7/2.
She looked as though she needed a draw closer to the rail next time out, and the grader agreed, as she is running from trap two tonight and has a vacant trap inside. Conditions look to be in her favour and a bold bid can be expected this evening.
BALLYMAC DASHEL : Ran from Trap 2 in the 1.41 pm at Swindon on Monday 15th September
Angie Kibble features for the second time this week, this time with the May 24 debutant Ballymac Dashel, who went close to making all the running in an A8 contest at Swindon
Kibble’s youngster just missed the break slightly out of the traps but showed good early pace into the opening bend to hit the front, and coming out of the second bend, had built up a lead of two lengths
The lead had extended to three lengths rounding the third bend, but it was at this point when that lead started to diminish, and he was picked up just a few strides from home.
Having been sent off as 4/5F, she was clearly fancied to make a winning debut but this May 24 youngster will look to land some compensation if able to hit the front next time out as she is sure to get stronger over the coming weeks and months
