Poppy tops the standings this week

Two Category One competitions kicked off last week, with Slingshot Poppy by far and away the most impressive winner in the Coral Golden Sprint. She has electric early and a slick exit saw her quickly in control of her field on her way to a 23.56 success on a track subsequently rated -10. Things get harder this week in the semis, but connections will feel that the market has it right with her on top of the betting.

Nottingham saw the start of the BGBF British Breeders Stakes where Eagles Respect turned over Romeo Tomcat to just produce the best time of the round. The Produce Stakes winner has made the bet 365 Challenge Cup final since, and it would be a surprise if he didn't make another decider. Credit also to Romeo Empire who was just two spots slower, dropping back to four bends.

The Queen Mother Memorial Cup kicked off at Sheffield where Droopys Flare picked up her heat, despite finding a little bit of trouble. She lost a few lengths on the way round but is flanked by pace in the final next week. She will still be expected to come out on top as the class act in the contest.

Jazzy George has won opens over Romford's 400m and Oxford's 450m but the drop back to sprinting has seen him make the finals of a pair of Category Two competitions. He chased home Shadow Storm in the final of the Arc Scurry at Dunstall Park last autumn, producing the quicker of the winning times in theultimatetipster.com Sandy Lane Sprint on Saturday night.

There were some decent runs at Central Park on Saturday night as well, led by Scooby The Lady. She has found the winning thread in style over the last few months, winning five of her last six starts, her only defeat coming at the paws of an Oaks finalist. A real handful when she traps, she will be a leading player back at Hove in the Brighton Belle next month.

Speaking of Brighton, Brunch Pal continues to impress for Dave Lee, tickling the 29-dead barrier on Thursday night. He has won seven of his 10 starts since arriving from Ireland, including decent times at both Central Park and Romford. Five lengths second to Cheap Sandwiches in the second round of the Irish Derby last year, it will be interesting to see how he fares in a look around Towcester.

Another perfect segue brings us to Pavilion Team who, despite being off for four weeks, showed no signs of rust in a quick sprint win on Sunday afternoon at the Northamptonshire venue. He is now 13/24 over the 270m distance, comfortably the track and trip that suits him best.

Bogger Cash has a decent bit of speed for a stayer and that won him his race at Dunstall Park at the weekend. His last two runs at Central Park had been smart, picking up a win and then leading up in the race where Princess Matilda broke the track record. Saturday was his first run at Dunstall Park, producing the quickest run of the year so far over 660m by 20 spots on a -15 track.

The next Category One to start will be the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby at Monmore. Trials stakes on Saturday night were competitive with Keefill Teak emerging with the best time from them. It was only the second race of his life, runner-up to a decent type in Underground Gold on his debut.

It seems remarkable for a June 24 whelp that Sunnyside Ted already has eight open race wins on the board. They have come at four different tracks, so he has plenty of adaptability, and his natural trapping will continue to see him rack up the wins as the year progresses.

Another who could be set to rack up a lot of wins this year is Farney Millie. Her 33.85 over 548m at Suffolk Downs was the quickest of the year so far, off a sectional that was just 11 spots off the sprint clock. There will be tougher assignments ahead if she goes back on her travels but this track and trip just suit her so well that she could stay put and notch up win after win.

There was a smart sprint performance from Here Comes Bob at Star Pelaw, getting the better of a regular in the column (Nah Then Keefill) in the process. He had beaten another decent yardstick in Sunnyside Jayden over 435m on his last visit to the track, and should be able to mix the two distances more in the future.

Colliers Bucholz V Rental Crisis part three moved across Yorkshire from Sheffield to Doncaster last week. They were tied at 1-1 coming in, with the former comfortably coming out on top this time around. The runner-up now has six wins and five seconds from 13 runs at the track.

At The Valley it was not the opens on Sunday that saw the best performance of the week but rather a graded contest on Thursday which saw Vanessas Tiger land a D2. He had scored the prior week on his debut at the track, taking out an open contest, with the drop back to sprinting compared to four bends at Swindon looking a canny move.

There was an excellent A1 win at Newcastle from Droopys Calla on Thursday. She is still only a puppy, producing the best run of her career to this point. There was just a single win from her in her first 12 starts but she has now gone back-to-back, showing a little more early pace to go along with her stamina.

An A1 at Yarmouth went to Chelms Charmer on Saturday afternoon. He had landed an S1 the week prior, and now has four wins from his last five starts. 2026 has been a strong year already for him, only missing out on a spot in the final of the Coral Essex Vase by half a length.

There's another June 24 puppy to discuss in Beaming Moscato, the third on the list this week. It was her sixth win in 18 starts and a career best on the clock, stopping the clock in sub 28 seconds on a slow track.

In terms of best times at Harlow last week, the winner could have been Barrington Chap for his win on Monday evening. However, that morning had seen a win for Doreens Ash, beating Indian Floyd which caught the eye and she then followed up on Friday in a quicker time, so she gets the nod to round out the journey around the country.
