Champion Stakes renamed to celebrate centenary
Romford have announced that there will be a chance in the name of the Champion Stakes to celebrate 100 years since Corals were founded.

Romford has renamed the Champion Stakes to reflect its owners own centenary celebrations.
As greyhound racing continues to mark the 100-year anniversary of the first meeting under rules at Belle Vue, Manchester, in 1926 - a special event was hosted by Dunstall Park on Friday on the same July 24 date as that initial six-race fixture - the Coral Romford Stadium is not only celebrating the sport's century of canine action, but Coral's own.
Joe Coral founded the company, now part of Entain, in 1926 and that anniversary will be marked on the track with the Coral 100 Years Champion Stakes.
Formerly the Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes - and won last year by the Mark Wallis-trained New Destiny - the Coral 100 Years Champion Stakes is run over 575m and takes place in October.
Mark Arkell, Romford racing manager, said: "It's a special anniversary for the company and the sport - and the Champion Stakes is a great way to reflect that. It's always a great event and is the third of our three 575m championship races if you like.
"Hopefully we will see the likes of Tiffield Tarquin, the Essex Vase champion, and Bikini Bullet, the Coronation Cup winner, back here for that. "Before then, of course, we have the Coral Puppy Cup which starts in September. That is always a springboard for the major competitions to come and it was great to see last year's winner Scooby Diamond back here recently to win the Guys and Dolls here."
