Droopys Clue all set for Coral Sussex Cup Trial Stakes on Thursday evening

Following on from a four-month absence, Droopys Clue returns to action tomorrow evening in the Coral Sussex Cup Trial Stakes Open Race at 7.16 over the four-bend 500-metre distance at Hove.

All eyes will be on the Seamus Cahill -trained performer when he lines up from T2 tomorrow evening for his eagerly-awaited return to the track. Droopys Clue is a true champion with 2023 and 2034 Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger wins on his card. Droopys Clue also has the 2023 Juvenile, Ladbrokes Summer Stayers and George Curtis Ballyregan Bob Memorial on his CV. He’s a class act and it’s great to see him back on the track.

Speaking to trainer Seamus Cahill today about his return to action, he had this to say: “Droopys Clue has had two good trials, so fingers crossed for tomorrow. It’ll take a few good runs to get back to his best, but we are happy with him. It’s a good race tomorrow. It’s a proper test, but he should go well. We wouldn’t run him if he wasn’t ready. If he goes lame again, we will retire him. He’s got to get back to Sussex Cup or Regency type standard for us to continue.’’

Speaking about the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy Final at 8.07, Cahill said: “Unthinkable in T2 is an improver and will head to the Regency if he goes well tomorrow. If things don’t go to plan, we may consider the Sussex Cup and drop him back in trip. Art Riddler from T5 will be staying on well. He’s a chasing type and should go well. Harlequin Beauty in T3 is a consistent sort and she will run her race. Patrick Janssens dog in T1 (Romeo Empire) looks a class act and will take all the beating.’’

Missile One will head to the Coral Sussex Cup Trial Stakes race at 8.59 and Seamus fancies him to go well and said: “He looks well-drawn on the rails, and this looks a winnable race. He had a niggle after the Derby but is fine now. He might just need this, but should be there or thereabouts.’’

Next on the agenda was Ivy Hill Cherry who lines up from T1 at 8.41 in the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency Trial Stakes race over the six-bend 695-metre trip. Seamus Cahill had this to say about the June 2022 daughter of Droopys Sydney: “She’s promised plenty but has had issues, little niggles. We would get her right, then she would break into season. She’s fine now and well-drawn with Ower Smasher on her outside in T2. The upcoming Regency is the target if all goes well tomorrow evening.’’

At 8.24 in the Coral Dual Distance Trophy final over the 515-metre trip all eyes will be on the Patrick Janssens-trained middle seed Romeo Tomcat who lines up from T5. Cahill said this about his pair of runners: “They (Kelvins Rocket and Kelvins Hat) will both run their race, but Romeo Tomcat is a Derby type of dog, he’s top class and will take all the beating.’’

Yougo Freddie runs from T1 in the Tracy Suter Birthday Stakes Open Race at 7.49 and Seamus Cahill said: “He’s a good improving grader but is up against it here. Glenrock King in T2 looks a nice type and Burrows Magic in T6 is a good dog, it’s a competitive race.’’
