Suffolk Downs returns with a Fabulous track record
The first night back at Suffolk Downs proved an excellent one for Patrick Janssens who had a treble on the card. The pick of those was Select Stayers winner Fabulous Heka who produced a track record run over the 716m distance. She didn't pick the lead up until the sixth bend having stumbled leaving the traps.
Yahoo Megan was the first winner of the new era at the track, a regular winner for Janssens at Suffolk Downs in 2023 and 2024, she was a length quicker than she had gone before to kick the night off with a smart performance. Gundy was the third winner of the night for Janssens, also over 388m.
It was also a big return to the track for Michelle Brown who picked up four winners. Savana Kilauea comes from a damline with plenty of stamina but a short four bends appears to be perfect for him, running out a fluent 23.61 winner, just 14 spots slower than Megan.
Savana Robbie and Savana Macey added to the winners over four bends for Brown, the former a smart performer who had plenty of decent winning form at the track prior to last night. Savana Cosmic added to the winning haul with a six-bend win.
The quickest six-bend time of the night came from Jason Smith's Westfield Vicky who clocked a swift 34.00. That barrier has not been breached often since the track became Suffolk Downs. Jason Ray picked up the other two opens on the card with Savana Sprite and Savana Pepsi who both showed plenty of early fizz from the boxes to make all the running.
Soppitt unleashes new pup at Star Pelaw
There was a smart winning debut at Star Pelaw as Ted Soppitt's Sunnyside Ted clocked a 14.57 success. It's fair to say that connections had him well schooled ahead of this first start, but Pelaw is no easy place to run, and he has to go down as one to note going forward. He already had smart times on his trial card at Doncaster, Dunstall Park and Newcastle as well as at Pelaw, and at 4/11 was the shortest priced winner on the night.
Westfield Gracie was the quicker of the two four-bend opens on the card, adding to an open race success at Doncaster in a winners of one contest to provide Jason Smith with an across the card double. The other 435m contest went to Samantha Atkinson's Baby Cupcakes.
The sprint final went to Favourite Rogue for Stuart Tighe who had the winner of all three heats the week prior. Burrow Starlet won a six-bend race for Dean Blackbird, staying on best to land the money.
Respect back to winning ways at Swindon
Produce Stakes winner Eagles Respect returned to winning ways at Swindon for Angie Kibble. He led up his rivals which included Sallowglen Hope who had beaten him the week before, and with his strength, he was never going to come back to them. It was another sub 28-second clocking, his fourth of the year, with 15 runs in total from all other dogs under that barrier in 2025.
Robert Short's Pennys Edge continued his progression with a maiden success. He had wins in A4, A3 and A2 in his last four runs in graded company before making his open race breakthrough. The other open on the card was won by Dalton Smith's Mohican Lucy.
