Four at Hove for Heath on Thursday night

Heath the man to beat at Hove with a four-timer

Four open winners at Hove last night made it 50 up for the Jason Heath kennel on the year, led by Coral Sussex Cup winner  Smokestack Saxon. He was quick to bounce back from a defeat a fortnight back, making it seven wins in 10 starts for the kennel with a strong-running effort that saw him pick things up halfway around the final two bends.

The quickest of the winners over 500m on the evening was Burrows Aries. He had been turned over at odds on on his Hove debut a week prior but he made no mistake in getting off the mark at the second time of asking. Arriving from Ireland with a 28.18 Shelbourne on his card, there is clearly a huge deal of ability there.

Burrows Fizz picked up the first open on the night after Burrows Dilemma had won the sole graded contest for Heath. She was too strong in the latter part of the 515m contest, shaping again as if she is worth a try over a short six bends. She moved well in a 575m trial at Romford back in June clocking 35.50 and perhaps a Champion Stakes bid next month would suit?

The open race four-timer was brought up in the final race on the evening by Burrows Titan. He cleared his two rails rivals inside of him into the opening bend and that was all she wrote. Having paced up well to the front, he showed nice middle gears to stretch his lead down the back tp put the contest to bed. 

Patrick Browne picked up a pair of winners with Playit Cool Trig landing a 20/1 surprise in the final of a Winners of One. He had shown huge pace in the heats but had been run down late on but this time there was no coming back for his rivals as he managed to get himself far enough clear. 

Slick Scout was the other winner for Browne, showing comfortably the best pace down the back to have the race comfortably in safekeeping by the third bend. He has a couple of sprint wins at this track and that natural speed helped him here to come out on top.

Another minor surprise on the card was the success of Blackstone Harry. He took a 515m final which looked a smart race on paper, picking things up on the run-in for Seamus Cahill. He had found trouble a couple of times on his way around and was well deserving of the success.  

Tony Taylor picked up a winner at a big price as well with Kerrs Rancher. He had got back in the win column a week ago, and once more he showed the best pace to the opening bend to take the race by the scruff of the neck. 

There was a winner for Paul Young as Bella Bullet picked up he front-running Tedushi Master late in the day. She had got swamped late on in a PGR St Leger heat at the weekend but over four bends, she had to come from behind to land the money. 

A six-bend debut win for Jamie Kingsley's Sussex Villan was fully expected by the market, but she only got home by a short head as she found her six-length lead halfway down the back being eroded rapidly by Heath's Minstrels Five. The pair pulled a mile clear of their other two rivals in a solid 42.20.

Another staying contest went to Vegan Warrior for Luke Morrison. He was another stepping up in distance for the first time, needing almost all of it to wear down Faypoint Harlow who had set the early fractions. From a speedy family, he has much more stamina than the majority of his relatives. 

Edgar has Harmony singing fabulously at present 

Fabulous Harmony made it four straight wins at Newcastle for Joe Edgar, absolutely running riot from the front to score by more than nine lengths in the fastest time of the night. She is electric at present, looking hard to oppose in coming weeks when she is in this sort of heart. 

A sprint contest went to Vialli for Stuart Tighe. He has now won four of his six starts since joining the kennel but more importantly, they have come on three different tracks over four distances. That level of adaptability is going to stand him in good stead to pick up plenty more open race success.

Jimmy Fenwick took the other open on the card with Rolo Genie. He signed off in Ireland in an A1 final, beating the useful Droopys Orator in the semis, had a single start for Tome Heilbron before joining the Fenwick team. This saw him off the mark at the third time of asking with them. 

Signature produces Valley best

David Hunt looks to have a nice one on his hands in the shape of Sawpit Signature, who made it 2/2 in action at the Valley. He is making a nice step forward on the clock each time that he goes to traps at present, and given he is not two until November, it seems fair to assume he can keep doing so, using some very smart early pace to his advantage. 

Mike Burton picked up the first open winner on the card with Droopys Fearless. He took until the 19th time of asking to get off the mark for the kennel, picking up Nathan Hunt's Fun Time Frankie at the third bend. It will be interesting to see if this can set him off on a string of wins now that he has got his head in front.  

There was better luck for Nathan Hunt with Anglesey Prime who picked up the other four-bend open on the card. Beaten just a length despite finishing fifth last week at this venue, he popped out in front to make every inch of the running on this occasion.

Ashway Blastoff was the quicker of the two sprint winners on the night, coming away running to make all for Adrian Rawlings. The veteran had got his head in front in a D2 on his most recent start, backing that up with his first open race win since March.

The big surprise on the night for punters was the success of Hawkfield Hoffa who landed odds of 25/1 for Tony Morgan. Once more, he was the one who was in control of things from an early stage, the others struggling to claw him back again.
