Friday Open Report-Bombay takes home the “Bucks” as part of Young Friday night treble

The only open race action in the UK on Friday took place at Romford, as local trainer Paul Young landed a treble on the card, with Bombay Buck landing the biggest prize on offer, the £500 Romford Friday Night 500 Standard Final

It was Michelle Brown’s Roanna Mamba who was sent off the odds on 4/5F on the back of two impressive all the way victories in his last two starts, but it was Young’s Bombay Buck (4/1) who produced a flying 3.63 sectional and built up an early lead. With the favourite caught up in scrimmaging at the first bend, he was able to build up a four-length lead heading down the back. Roanna Mamba gave chase, but it proved to be in vain as Bombay Buck crossed the line in front three and half lengths clear in 23.75.

That victory landed the hat-trick for trainer Paul Young, who had early won a heat of the two competitions that were held on the card.

Micks Amigo (4/1) overcame a bump at the first bend before taking up the lead at the third bend for a length and three-quarters victory in 24.06 to take the first heat of the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden over 400m.

The other competition, the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden Stayers over 575m saw the first heat going the way of Young’s impressive winner Airtech Amigo (10/11F) in 35.63. This was his first start over six bends since March, but having shown a good burst of early pace, he was able to hit the front on the run to the first bend and never looked to be in any danger, making all the running for a five and a quarter length victory.

Dave Mullins was responsible for the other two heat winners of both competitions.

Chelms Simmo (3/1) battled well to take heat two of the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden Stayers in a slightly slower time than Airtech Simmo, defeating Young’s Chill Drago by half a length in 35.68, while Ten Fold (5/2) also had to overcome some trouble in running to overcome Martyn Wiley’s Bedrock Bella in the first heat of the Romford Friday Night 500 Maiden, reeling in the leader on the run for home for a length success in a time of 24.25.

Wiley was able to go one better later on in the card courtesy of Daring Hoffa (10/11F) who backed up last week’s winning performance over 225m with another all the way success here. Having beaten two of the field last week, victory was never in doubt having broken well and built up a lead of a length and a half into the first bend and went to secure a three-length victory in 13.45

Chelms Chloe (6/5F) was able to land some compensation for a costly defeat last week when gaining revenge on Michelle Brown’s Miss Direct. Yarmouth trainer Craig Morris’s runner produced a poor break and found trouble in running when beaten at 1/3F last week, but she broke in much better fashion and once hitting the front off the second bend, she was able to stride clear to build a winning lead, crossing the line three and a quarter lengths clear of Brown’s Miss Direct in 23.97.

Monmore trainer Richie Taberner and Hove’s Belinda Green also made the Friday night struggle through traffic to Romford a worthwhile one as both handlers recorded wide margin successes.

Aero Boris (4/7F) made a winning eight-bend debut when recording a seven and a half length victory in 47.49 over 750m.  It was a step into the unknown for Taberner’s runner, who had been staying on well enough over six bends to give this distance a try but once he hit the front off the second bend, there was never a moment’s worry for Taberner or his backers, as crossing the line with a lap to go, Aero Boris had built up a lead of three lengths. Heading round the final bends, that lead had doubled and drew further clear on the run for home, putting to bed any stamina doubts. Tougher tasks will surely be on the cards shortly.

Green’s winner came courtesy of Gary The Arb (3/10F), who was another runner to back up a winning performance from last week. Last week’s six and a quarter winning run in 34.94 was a quicker time than was produced by Coral Coronation Cup winner Fabulous Sonique and Green’s runner, who now has six wins from nine starts over the 575m distance, bettered that run this week, stopping the clock in 34.77 for a six and three quarter length victory. Despite being drawn in three, Gary The Arb led on the run to the first bend, and from that point, it was just a case of how far.

Gemma Evans landed the first of the open’s on the card when her Padders Inmotion (4/1) got the better of some trouble in running, both rounding and off the final bend from Craig Morris’s Droopys Metaphor, to score by half a length in 24.33. Having received an official comment of “Awkward” on the card, connections may feel relieved that they didn’t receive a more severe comment, which on another day or at another track, may have occurred.

Maxine Locke’s Untold Tether (8/1) had landed his two previous starts at Central Park when leading in the early stages and was able to land his hat-trick back at his home track. Having trapped well, he turned the opening bends in a handy position, and having hit the front rounding the last bends, he went to score as the biggest priced winner of the night, recording a length victory in 24.36.
