GBGB Director Engages Owners and Calls for Feedback

GBGB Owner Practitioner Director Tony Brealey took to social media platform X on Sunday to provide an update on the work he’s undertaken since starting the role in May 2025.

As Owners’ Representative, Brealey is tasked with presenting the views and concerns of all GBGB registered greyhound owners at Board level, helping ensure owner voices are heard across the sport’s decision-making structure.

Brealey, a company director based in South Derbyshire, has owned greyhounds for nearly a decade and boasts six Category One victories to his name.

Key Areas of Focus So Far

“I’ve attended one board meeting and I’m looking forward to the next this coming Wednesday,” Brealey shared. “The first meeting was really about understanding the process and meeting the other board members. I’ve already been invited to several subcommittees and have attended two.”

He also addressed a number of concerns that have been raised by owners:

  • Bond System Transparency: “Many owners asked about the bond money and its security. I’ve confirmed it’s held in a separate account with all interest retained there. Some owners can’t get a refund under current criteria — I believe the bond system needs modernisation. Right now, it feels like an owner tax to fund greyhound homing initiatives.”

  •  Open Communication: “Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. I have a dedicated private email ([email protected]) and am also available via direct message on X.”

  • Track Visits: “I’m visiting as many tracks as possible and want to attend owners' meetings regularly. I’ve already booked to attend the next Star Pelaw meeting — let me know if your track has a date fixed.”

  • Voting Eligibility Concerns: “Some owners raised issues about the voting system used for this role. Currently, the rules don’t clearly define what constitutes an ‘owner’. I’m working with the board to define that, which will also help establish voting eligibility.”

Looking Ahead – Ownership Experience & Prize Money

Brealey also confirmed he has requested a regular slot at board meetings to provide an owner issues update, and plans to submit briefing notes in advance to ensure transparency with all stakeholders.

“This is a great opportunity to push the importance of owners in British greyhound racing. With a new Chairman and CEO coming in, we have momentum for change.”

While some projects are still confidential due to sensitivity, Brealey promised regular updates:

“I will put out a bi-monthly update — or more if needed — and continue to work 100% on behalf of owners. I only ask for respect in return.”

He concluded by confirming he is actively challenging prize money structures to make the sport more financially sustainable for greyhound owners.
